FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Black Coach Turnlock
Listing number:
Seller and site where listed: @tonirobinson570 on Poshmark

Comments: I’d appreciate an authentication on this black tie lock as well. Seller failed to mention the zipper was faulty since there is one little tooth missing at the very end but that is okay since it’s still functional. The Coach tag has faded a little. I will upload an additional photo of the stamp. Thank you.

@Hyacinth could you take a look at this black turnlock? Thank you

This is fake.
Sheesh! It seems like every Poshmark seller whose fakes I've seen today have multiple fakes and tonirobinson570 is no exception.

I wouldn't recommend buying that pouch. Ideally, I'd like to see a picture of the underside of the top flap showing the back of the female side of the turnlock but what I see isn't making me feel warm and fuzzy.

ETA: Just saw the additional pictures.
It's fake.

On second thought, I don't recommend kristina11111 at all.

This item is fake too:

And another fake:
GoodMorning @BeenBurned could you please let me know the flaws of this turn lock so that I may process the return. Thank you.

@DoraT94

PLEASE wait at least 24 hours before requesting another authentication for the same item if the first request hasn't been answered. We're getting multiple requests for the same item just a few hours apart. It's creating confusion and extra work for the authenticators. We have our own lives and responsibilities and are volunteers, we're NOT here 24/7.

Unfortunately I'm having computer problems and except for shopgoodwill items I can't see most sellers' listing photos so unless the seller's photo of the creed and serial number is included in an authentication request, I can't help. So keep that in mind when asking about Poshmark items, those are going to take longer. Pouches and cosmetic cases like many of the items you're asking about are especially difficult to authenticate because they have few IF ANY features that prove they were made by Coach.

SLOW DOWN and be patient. And consider not buying highly faked or hard to authenticate styles from sites like Poshmark that are safe havens for fakes sellers.

@Hyacinth ok thank you for your response and explanation on Poshmark items. And I apologize if I caused confusion.

Comments: Thank you!! Just for fun, I did an "inflation calculator," The 1996, $336 selling price today would be $640.

Not to get off topic here but it actually would probably cost more now than $640 :)

beyond increase of just inflation, for the same kind of quality that vintage Coach has (full-grain, full aniline, overall quality design, handmade by skilled artisans…) we would have to factor in the higher cost of materials, the tannery processes, fair cost of skilled labor, not outsourced, etc. Would not be surprised if it would retail for $1k+ had Coach remained a high quality leatherware company to this day.

Comments: hello I’d like some authentication on this wallet. When I received in the mail I couldn’t help but notice that the Coach stamp looked a little different from the rest of the other stamps I’ve seen and as well as the zipper. Anyways I’d appreciate some input, thank you.

Some of the problems with the red turnlock pouch from kristina11111 were ones you noticed yourself. The "Coach" stamp is in the wrong location, stamp itself has subtle irregularities that the genuine stamp wouldn't have and the turnlock hardware is incorrect. (Although a genuine item could have had the hardware replaced, the issues with this item are more than just the hardware.)

Note that I avoid Poshmark listings because of Poshmark's lack of oversight and the fact that so many buyers seem aware that Poshmark tacitly allows fakes by not responding to reports. As such, even when listings on PM are authentic, I prefer not to promote what I consider to be an unsafe site.

As you can see, you've had several fakes from there and if I were a gambler, I'd wager that once you return the fakes, you'll see that those sellers will likely relist and suck another buyer in.

Hello Authenticators

Item: Vintage coach purse crossbody black Gray
Listing number: 295068844452
Seller and site where listed: moll_mcdow on eBay

Comments:
- no measurements but looks like a Compact Pouch style 9620, seen as early as 1981 catalog (was that style released any earlier?)
- do you think this is “grey”, or very faded black? I have a feeling it is very faded, but I saw in the reference catalogs that Flannel Grey was a color offered starting around 1987? But with the creed saying Made in New York City and the serial number not following XXXX-XXX, this would make me think this is possibly just a very faded black bag since the creed style pre-dates when I found Flannel Grey to start being offered as an option.

Edit: I made a mistake, i am following *two* of these bags, the other seller is the one who submitted an offer to me (other one has split edges which I’m not sure I want to deal with)… the one I have listed below here is not the BIN bag :’( and unfortunately is set up for auction only. But I am still curious on authenticity

Hello again. I received an offer from the seller and am considering this but would like to authenticate before. Also any additional thoughts regarding it are appreciated. Thanks again in advance for the efforts you all put in to help authenticate!

Item: Vintage Coach Crossbody Penny Pocket Leather Purse British Tan Leather 1980’s

- adding relevant photos to post
- having a hard time trying to place when this was made. I first thought mid to late 1970s based on “made in the United States” and Coach creed wording. But found the model I think it is (pocket purse 9755) in the 1987 reference catalog. could this still be from the 80s without the XXXX-XXX format?
- dimensions provided by seller: 9.5” x 6.5” x 2” with 42” strap with approximately 20” drop
- bigger measurements than a traditional Dinky style from 70s-80s and the 9755 Pocket purse (late 1980s) seems to have dimensions seem closer to what seller has listed
- A bit dirty on the inside (typical dirt/debris, possible ink?) along with what appears to be water or oil stain on back panel both on inside / outside, different spots. Do you think $70 is a fair price for this color (British Tan?) and style, in this condition? I have not seen many below $100 these days, and I never can find vintage coach in my thrift stores

You've been getting some incorrect information on coach dates. There are several really inaccurate "authenticity guides" with dating info that's often ten years off that are still kicking around on the internet 10 or 15 years after the information in them had been proved incorrect and that sounds like the nonsense posted in one of them. The seller actually has the correct time period.

"Made in the United States" would NEVER be found in a bag from the 1970s. That creed detail and "United States" wording was only used from 1988 to 1996 at the very latest. The Salearea Guides link that is Stickied to the top of the Coach Shopping index page has correct dating information in the Serial Numbers posts.

We usually would need more photos to identify the bag - the pocket under the flap, and whether it has an outside slip pocket on the back. If there's an outside slip pocket on the back it's probably a Pocket Purse. The seller says that it does.

We're not allowed to comment on pricing, sorry. The best thing to do is to compare it to recent selling prices for Pocket Purses on Ebay.

And BTW there's no such style as a Penny Pocket and never has been. That imaginary name has been applied to everything from Dinkys to Convertible Clutches, but the "Penny" part is completely wrong.
