A few genuine early bags, briefcases and suitcases from the Business and Travel collections used the P code and were made in the US.

But the font used in the serial number of the bag you asked about is very distinctive and was only used in fakes. There are also other problems with it including the lining.
Thank you, Hyacinth. I will use it as a knock-around bag this summer so I can keep my red one nice. Then I will throw it in the trash.

I've another PM listing I am curious about: https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintag...nd-Fullgrain-leather-63699ef0253a8c00460653a2. The creed photo is from the listing, it's not great, apologies.

(Yikes. Every time I see the prices that vintage Coaches are selling for these days, I go into shock. And I thought the price of a dozen eggs had gone crazy!)

It's genuine, but the seller is off on the date. It wasn't made in the 1980s. The style wasn't introduced until mid-1992, so this one would have been made between then and the end of 1993. And Coach only started using just "COACH" without the "LEATHERWARE" (ONE word, not two) on their hangtags right around the end of 1991. The Spring 1992 color samples page shows both hangtag versions, and Coach would have used up the older ones first.

The seller should be a bit more careful about where she gets her information. Too many of the so-called authenticity guides on the internet are badly in need of corrections or deletion.

The bag leather, style and color look to be nice enough to carry. Is it possible to remove the stitching around the patch to completely remove it from the bag? And replace the Coach zipper pull with a generic pull? Is the hangtag fake as well? You could enjoy carrying the bag for now if you wanted to. A possible donation in the future would eliminate any indication it ever pretended to be a Coach. Just a thought
@DL Harper ... thank you for these suggestions. I will either do what you suggest or deconstruct the bag and use the leather for projects. Undecided at this time. : )

Hello,

Please authenticate the following bag which I purchased on eBay.

Item: 275658981080
Seller: thehandbagspot
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275658981080?nma=true&si=5UqlpAS6ik5inaffcuJQ4TF3eDU%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I have the bag in my possession if you need additional photos. I should have had this done before the purchase but time was running out.

Thank you.

When you have some time, please post a photo of the creed and serial number that also shows about 2 inches of the lining around the creed patch. Thanks.

Genuine, but I don't have any information about the style. The creed looks correct for a bag made of vachetta leather.

There were at least 3 other vachetta styles made at the same time in the E plant. Italy was still making a limited number of styles, mostly in more expensive leathers or complicated designs that Coach apparently wasn't ready to trust to the Chinese plants yet.

ETA - here's one of its siblings made at the same time:
