Good afternoon,

I'm trying to authenticate a leather briefcase that's being sold on my local Craigslist. The link is http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/clo/5094895670.html. The serial number is one that has been previously identified as being on the "suspect" list i.e. M4N-4154. I can only copy and paste the picture from that ad and without their permission, I hesitate to do so. Hopefully, you are able to go to the link and authenticate based on that information. Please advise and thanks in advance.

I'm not seeing that serial number in the link provided. The creed I'm seeing has the number 0131-334 if I'm reading it right. I don't see any problems with the briefcase. More opinions are welcome.

I don't see any problems. You may wish to ask about any beverage stains or anything like that, unless, of course you are going to see it in person. You want to make sure the outside pocket is secure to the outside seams of the bag. Sometimes they stress out of the seam.

Hi Maramd! Yes, only the best shoe repair person can do it. Or even someone that makes leather goods like motorcycle saddlebags, motorcycle seats, or even an upholstery person. It requires professional sewing machines and heavy duty thread and someone that is particular about stitching. It could cost you a good buck but you will be able to boost the value of your bag. My guy is right in Chicago south suburbs. Good luck!

Thanks for responding so quickly regarding my post. Actually, I am looking at two Coach brief cases posted in my local Craigslist. Apparently I confused one with the other and confused you. Here is the link to the Craigslist ad for the bag I really want to buy "http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/clo/5090403228.html". As you will glean from the ad, the creed represents a serial number that has been known to be suspicious i.e. M4N-4154. I was hoping you could provide your trusted opinion as to the authenticity of the bag. I thank you, in advance, for any information you could proffer.

I'm not an authenticator, but the exterior looks a lot like my Essex briefcase, and the interior looks nothing like it. Looks like one for the experts.

I'm not an authenticator either but I would not pay $1 for that bag, that's how sure I feel it's fake...in my oh-so-humble opinion. :D
The other one you referenced on the other hand looked good to me and was less than half the price!

I didn't want to say #2 is fake, since I'm not qualified. But I'd definitely choose #1, too, since one of the actual authenticators did give the ok (and it's cheaper).

Thank you both for your valued opinion. I liked the appearance of the 2nd bag compared with the first, but after reading many articles, I questioned the authenticity of the 2nd bag due primarily to the serial number being flagged as potentially fraudulent. As such, your opinions have carried sufficient weight to convince me that I should look toward the other brief case at 1/2 the price. Thanks so much for helping me to avoid a mistake. At this point, however, I remain conflicted as to whether I should inform others as to the potential fraudulent misrepresentation in this ad. I would hate to state this as fact without further corroboration from an expert. Thanks for listening and many thanks.

I am an authenticator and the bag is fake. The font is too thick, the N factory code is invalid for the year and place of manufacture, the style number is wrong, the word "scratches" is misspelled, etc. I believe you should report it as a counterfeit if you can.

I would not buy the second bag. Too many problems with it[emoji2]

Your link didn't work:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/clo/5090403228.html

The serial number isn't "potentially fraudulent" or "suspicious." It's absolutely invalid and any and every item it's on is counterfeit.
