Counterfeit Saddle Bag
Seller: fabulous518

I know this bag is no good but buyer would like to send pm some evidence of it being counterfeit. Seller is not being cooperative about return so here we are.

Thanks in advance!

definitely fake. I don't know how you can convince Posh of that as it isn't obvious to someone who isn't familiar with creeds. I don't have any relevant examples of creeds to show the difference. What does the back of the female part of the turnlock look like?

In my experience, you don't need to convince the seller, just PM.

Can you post a readable photo of the full creed and serial number the same approximate size as the one you just posted of the back of the turnlock so I can check my files for comparable examples in fake or genuine bags? Thanks.

The indented turnlock is a major red flag in spite of at least one Poshmark seller's assertions over the last 2 years that "Coach started to use indented turnlocks on some remakes". However, this is apparently NOT a remake, and the seller making that assertion never included photos of any examples. Also indented turnlocks on newer styles probably would have a different overall design than the classic turnlocks on vintage Coaches as did turnlocks on almost all Coaches made after 2010 that I can recall seeing. So far I've never seen an indented turnlock on any vintage Coach where the photos showed details especially creed and serial number photos that are exact matches for genuine examples.

And I've never seen that style with contrast stitching either.
Although this post isn't necessarily on topic regarding the recent fake sold by the poshmark seller, it does show the history of the seller.

For the record, the saddle bag wannabe isn't the only fake listed and/or sold by fabulous518.

@Busykitty - Feel free to refer the buyer of the fake to this post and to Poshmark to show what a dreadful history fabulous518 has.

There were probably more fakes but I've given up going through them further.

Here's a comparison of the creed on fabulous518's fake bag vs. a creed from an authentic Coach bag made in the same month, year and factory.

I don’t think these double rows of stitching above and below the creed are correct either.

Thanks very much. That *7B- prefix seems to be a huge favorite with counterfeiters, I have at least 20 in my files with various month codes and roughly 75-80 percent of them are fake.

One of the few positively genuine examples is below, and it's a bag I personally own and I made absolutely sure before I bought it that it was genuine.

Note the too-thick "H" in the Coach logo in the fake, the horizontal lines on the upper right and lower left ends of the "N" in "No" and especially the different positions of the underscore line and the size difference in the "o"s in the same abbreviation, the slightly different shape of the 9s, and the different spacing between the center dashes in the 2 serial numbers. Small differences, but as we've said before, most of the early plants' creed stamps during that time period were as unique to their individual plants as fingerprints are to humans, especially plants B thru E.

The creed and serial from the genuine bag BeenBurned posted is from the same style as mine, one that's been discussed here more than once, click on the thumbnail to enlarge:

Dear authenticators,

I’d appreciate help in authenticating this bag on eBay:

Seller: star4g5m
Listing # 225084985373
Serial number: looks like 0065-338, hard to read, a pre-1994 Murphy
Measurements: 9 X 6 x 3” approximately (seller is not measuring it properly and gives a wider width)

Thank you, as always - I appreciate your knowledge and generosity in sharing it!

It's fine. (ETA: I don't know where she copied the serial number that's shown in the descripiton but it's not from the bag shown.)

Again, the bag is fine.

Bumping for authentication when you have time. Many thanks for the incredible service you provide! :flowers:
I saw the request but I'm not familiar with the particular item. And because the creed picture is blurry, I can't see or read it well enough to make an accurate opinion.

I will say that the seller is VERY wrong in describing it as "vintage" as it's not even close to 20 years old and in the item specifics, she calls it "Coach Sonoma." (I know ebay has some incorrect default options, but it's better for sellers to leave those boxes blank than to post inaccurate info.)

If you can get a crystal clear and legible picture of the creed from the seller, I'll give it another look.

Thanks so much, BB. I tried to message the seller but can't because I'm in Canada. As it turns out they won't ship outside of the US.

Comments: Is there enough info here to authenticate (or suggest a possible style)? If not, I'll take my own pics and request again when the bag is in hand. For the cheap price, I thought I'd take a chance. It looks like a 9168. "North South Compartment Bag." Thanks!!

No, there's not enough to authenticate.

Even if the bag is authentic, the strap doesn't appear to be original to the bag because the grommets are silver, or look that way to me.

She doesn't even have measurements in that listing! Sheesh, don't sellers realize that they can get more money when they make the effort to do a bit of work? But then, these types of deals (if authentic) wouldn't happen.

Thanks! When I get it, I'll take pics. She does have a ruler in one pic and it appears to be about 9.5 inches square. In my research online, I saw other bags 9168 which appeared to have brass buckles and silver color grommets. We shall see if it's a trick of the lighting or something odd. :)
