Good morning! This one has me confused. The creed shows 'made in Italy', the serial number puts it pre-1994, and the lining says 'sonoma'. I've looked through all of my physical catalogues and can't find this bag. (the closest I can find, I think, is shown carried by Gene Kelley's daughter (!) with no info) Could you folks verify authenticity and, maybe, the name of this style? No need to interrupt any Mother's Day festivities. I don't think it's going anywhere fast at this price.

Haha I thought of you when I saw this and was thinking of messaging you! It is an ambitious price.
I will be curious to find out what the experts have to say too. Did it take a while to get all the plants up to speed for serial/registration change... It does fit the description for the Medium Drawstring Natural Grain shown in the late '94 catalogs listed in the Reference Library and for my paper copy of Holiday '94.

Oooo, I'm intrigued. You may have found a Mystery Bag. I need to do a bit more digging through my files but it MAY be a very early example of a bag that I don't have any solid records for, but it fits a gap in the serial numbers, possibly 4904, and if genuine would only have been made for a short time. I would NOT advise buying it yet unless someone's a real gambler who likes to take chances on bags that can't be verified and don't have any paper trail, but it's a helluva lot more likely to be genuine than some others we've seen. Give me some time to check my creed photos.

I LOVE a good mystery. So funny, @Lake Effect . I looked at the catalogues you referenced. The dimensions were never the same twice. @Hyacinth, I await your learned verdict! Still a fascinating bag.

GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE !!!!! I didn't see this until after I'd already posted.

Is there any way you can scan the catalog page for that 4904 (unless you added it to the catalog scans? I'm going over there to check as soon as I finish posting. It's not in the Fall '94 scanned catalog but it looks like a larger twin to 4905. The only unusual detail is the lack of any leather trim around the inside zipper, but if it's as early as the all-numeric serial number indicates, that may be because it's just an early production version that might not have made it to full production.

I LOVE finding Mystery Bags!

WOOT !!!

So far the creed wording and all-numeric serial details match at least one other early Italy-made Sonoma in my files.

Found it!

LAKE EFFECT, I COULD KISS YOU FOR SCANNING AND POSTING THAT CATALOG! But my DH is watching. :flowers:

So it's now a Semi-Mystery Bag that disappeared almost as fast as Malaysia Flight 370. But at least now we have a catalog listing even though it's one of those "Not Shown" items (which is probably why the number never made it into my files) AND those listing pics too :yahoo:. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!

Click on the thumbnail to enlarge yada yada.

Since I have the paper Holidays '94 open, on catalog page 70, the bag is listed, but not shown #4904, with its Nubuc buddy, #4930. But that line is easy to miss against the rocks!
I believe it was also listed, not shown in the Fall catalog. Let me check, I have to go back to the Library.

Aw shucks! No worries. Keep that groove going with the hubs  I just love being a part of this group that promotes Coach knowledge and facts (from the horse's mouth at the Coach Marketing Department) even if there are inconsistencies.

I can't wait to go out to the next flea market. Would love to find more Coach info!!!
and Happy Mother's Day to all!

While I was involved in this little project, my sneaky DH switched the TV to a bleedin' GOLF TOURNAMENT and I lost track (no pun intended) and missed the first half of the F1 race from Florida. NUTS. I may have to confiscate his remote... Wait, WTF? It hasn't even started yet? Did they broadcast 90 minutes of propaganda from the Greater Miami Tourist Board? TitanTV showed the starting time for the broadcast as 1PM Central. SHEEEESH.

At least I didn't miss any of the race. Formation lap starting now. GO LEWIS !!!

@Hyacinth! I had no idea! Formula one racing?!? Does Violet know? At least you're rooting for a Brit!

I've cheered for a few Brits in my day, among others, although I haven't really followed F-1 for a long time. There were a few familiar family names on this year's starting grid like Verstappen, Shumacher, and Magnussen, but they all had the wrong first names, not the ones I remember. It makes me feel kind of old. :crybaby:

Heck, my first Formula One hero was a Brit. A Scot, actually, which I'm sure most Scots will tell you is NOT the same thing. And for me, Jimmy Clark is still the greatest driver ever. But I've cheered for Yanks, Austrians, Brazilians, and at least 2 other Scots, among others, so I am, or I was, an Equal Opportunity racing fan. And I won't even try to count all the Champ Car (CART) or sports car drivers whose t-shirts and pins I've worn although Italy, Australia and the US are probably at the top of the list.

As for Violet, Bruce only allows horse racing to be discussed under his roof. Fortunately Onslow doesn't care. Any competition you can bet a fiver on is all right in his book. :giggle:
