I wasn’t sure because I thought I had seen bags like this before (maybe a reverse suede one, and also a longer one with the striped lining and feet on the bottom) but was surprised not to find any Coach stamp anywhere on this bag. Maybe I need to go in with a flashlight on the suede inside, haha! The leather feels pretty normal & nice to me, but maybe a bit thicker than what I’ve found my other pre-creed bags to feel like.

Please remember that there are NO trademark or copyright laws at all that forbid copying any kind of fashion or style right down to the last stitch, as long as the copier doesn't also copy any of the original maker's registered trademarks anywhere on the item. There may be a few very expensive bag styles, mostly French, that the also mostly-French courts might have declared to be their own copyright/trademark because they're so universally recognized, but Coach or Cashin styles aren't among them.

So not only are they difficult if not impossible to authenticate, but technically if Coach didn't put their name on the item somewhere, technically they aren't protected. They can't be sold as a Coach either since there's no way to prove their origin. The one "maybe" with pre-creed Coaches can be one that may have had one of the small metal tags inside it at one time which came loose and disappeared, but that's very hard to determine. Or prove.

“Vintage coach "penny pocket" bag"
seller and site: goochk poshmark
link: https://poshmark.ca/listing/Vintage-Coach-penny-pocket-bag-5ec41e6b163df497b72554f0

Thanks!

Genuine Coach from the early 1990s, possibly a Pocket Purse but the seller didn't post measurements. There's no such thing as a "Penny Pocket" Coach. We can't find any indication of the name "Penny" in Coach's catalogs, ads or other media on vintage (usually pre-China) handbags.

As @BeenBurned pointed out, there are many differences between yours and others we've seen.

Hi authenticators! I found this bag locally but I looked all over the bag outside and inside for a Coach marking and cannot find it (besides the hang tag). The inside has no lining or pocket where a stamp usually is. Could it be fake?

Item: barrel bag
Purchased locally
Measurements: approx 12” length and 4.5” height

I think I recall a similar bag having been posted in the past but I've searched and can't find the post.

But I found these:

There are differences between your bag and the following:
This one has the BC lining and the "Coach" name plaque.

Makes sense. Thank you to everyone!
