Hello, requesting authentication on this item please. Not hopeful, daughter bought it. Thank you!
Item: Small leather bag
Listing number: 14121613
Site: shopgoodwill.com, Goodwill of Western Michigan
Listing: https://shopgoodwill.com/item/141216163

It's genuine but we need measurements to ID the style. It was made in the early 1990s

It's very hard to ID bags with all-number serial numbers without full measurements and a full set of photos - front, back showing whether or not it has a back pocket, under the flap showing any pocket, the base showing the vertical seams if any, and one side showing how the strap is attached and the inside showing the inside pocket details.

When you receive them you can take photos and measurements and post them in the ID This Coach thread in the main Coach forum.
Thank you for all the information. I will be sure to post them in the other thread for ID.

Hi authenticators, I just purchased this bag off of EBay. Could I please get the verdict on this one?

Item: Gramercy brief (black)
Listing number: 265595748027
Seller / site where listed: kitten0709 / eBay
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/265595748027

Btw, thanks to Busykitty in the "ID this Coach" thread for figuring out the model year and name of this one. I'm so happy that this listing came back from the dead--now I'm just hoping that it's the real deal.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you, Hyacinth.

It's about 9"x7"x3" -- I say "about," because it is very soft and the height changes a bit if measured with the flap closed or just the main body of the bag. The creed confuses me as I think it looks like a Quincey? But is the creed ok and the serial ok (all numbers)?

Thanks again!

It's definitely genuine, from the 1991 Holiday catalog, style 5092.

A big Thank You to BusyKitty for posting it. Somehow when I made my names and photos files 12 years ago that one was missed. I'm so glad she found it.

Genuine Quincey Bag style 9919 and made around 1992-93.

While I agree that it's not possible to make a SOLID AUTHENTICATION on the listing, I believe that the bag is fake.

There are differences between my 9960 daypack and the one in the listing from olika58 (5).

1. As you pointed out, the ends of the drawstrings aren't supposed to be knotted.
2. The leather portion between zipper pocket and the raw leather of the top flap is larger than it should be.
3. The holes through which the drawstring feeds are too high up above the zippered pocket and the top of the leather part. On the bag in question, it's centered between the zipper and the flap. THe drawstring should be just above the zipper.
4. The front flap appears to be squarer than it should be. See how it's more rounded on the comp below.

My opinion is that you should NOT buy that bag. Other opinions are welcome.

I agree with BeenBurned.

Yay! Thank you Hyacinth, you made my Sunday.

Actually, after Busykitty ID-ed it, I went back to the “vintage catalogs” thread and nosed around more carefully… you did upload it, Hyacinth (in the “1991 Holiday part 3” file), I just didn’t see it initially because it seems to have made just that one appearance - as opposed to some of the other business styles which showed up in multiple seasons. 8-)

Yes, it's in the scanned catalogs but I made my own sets and lists of style numbers and photos years ago from all my scanned catalogs, and missed that one. One of my photos has a note that the style was apparently only available in 1991.

And I just noticed an almost identical style 5230 available in the catalogs from Spring 1989 to Holiday 1990. I wonder if the Gramercy Brief was designed to replace the earlier one. They look like twins, but the style seems to have disappeared shortly afterwards.

5230, Spring Preview 1989:

IGNORE > The black one you asked about isn't either one of them. The straps are different and it doesn't have those leather strips extending down from the straps.

ETA - never mind, it IS the Gramercy. A REALLY close look at the straps with a magnifying glass settled it. That, and turning on a brighter light. That's a relief! I can go to sleep now. Sorry if I caused a panic.
