This is interesting.

I'm curious and would like opinions on this listing.

IMO, the box looks like it has a "Coach" sticker stuck on to a generic box, the stitching is a sloppy mess, the key ring and D-ring are the wrong shape and I'm wondering whether it's a fake bullet.

Here's one I had a few years ago.

Wow! That's awesome that you have the same style.

I'm a fan of side by side comps and there are huge differences between your authentic one and the one I'm questioning from 67jimnz. I cannot image that 67jimnz 's item would have passed quality assurance.

I don't believe the ebay item is authentic. Other opinions?

And last but not least from same group....

Auction #271891828785
Seller: cha-cha-stuff

6.Black Legacy Zip J8Y-9966
(I know this prefix is suspect if not always fake)

Although I am almost 100% sure this is no good I just wanted back up when I tell the seller.
ALso good to show anyone who might be looking that this bag has the CORRECT turn lock hardware, and a YKK zipper!
so much for the ykk myth of course we know already.
Buckle is marked "brass",
and rivets on the strap look more silver than gold.
The J8Y bag is fake.

ANOTHER....

5. Black Stewardess A9X-9525
(yikes, creed was illegible til I put some talc on it, now I see it says made from ... custom-developed material trimmed with glove tanned leather...or some such!)

confirmation please:tdown: that this is BOGUS!!

It's not the first time I've seen an X-plant bag with the wrong creed. I'm wondering if no one there cared which creed belonged in which bag. That X code might turn out to have been their "garbage" plant where they just stamped bags with whatever was available at the time. Maybe that's why two out of the three we've found have had Outlet and/or Final Sale stamps. Remember, all the info we're finding on creeds and stamps can change as new examples show up.

The first one is an apparently genuine Neo from 1998 with a "cowhide" and Made in the US creed and an X stamp meaning it was being sold to TJ Maxx or Marshall's. I can't see any counterfeiter back then even KNOWING what an X stamp meant, much less using it in a fake.

The second is another Stewardess from 1999 with both an Outlet and a Final Sale stamp.

I think they're all genuine including yours, especially if there aren't any other problems except the creed and serial number. The fonts in the 2 Stewardesses are identical, but there's not enough of the 1998 creed showing in the neo for a comparison.

Thank you so much!
I should have told you the style number I thought it was (4029) because I found one on ebay and that is what the seller said it was. But it was the only one I could find so I did not want to lend it much credence.
This is a blanket thank you for ALL the authentications I submitted tonight!

WOW, it just gets more and more complicated but yet more and more interesting!
How in the world did you happen to have another Stewardess with the same creed and time?
Amazing.
THank you.

I have another bag (a city bag which I will be submitting here sometime soon...lol) with an X factory, but it is from 2003 and in Dominican Republic.

I don't "have" that Stewardess, just found the photo on Ebay a while back.

Remember, almost none of those plant codes are carved in stone. We have a good idea where they all started off or spent most of their time but Coach could and obviously did re-assign codes to different plants as needed. Since the serials and creed stamps were stamped separately it was easy to just juggle plant codes as their status changed. There are quite a few that we've found multiple locations for, the M plant being the "bounciest" of the lot, but it's a constantly changing situation as we get new information and new photographs. That's one reason why, except for a few plants like Italy whose code apparently never changed during that time, we don't usually recommend calling a bag a fake based only on the plant code.

And toward the end of the 1990s when Coach was preparing to relocate production to China there would have been a lot of changes - plant closings or contracts with existing plants not owned by Coach terminated, that sort of thing. Coach didn't know OR care that 15 years later we'd be swearing and calling them all sorts of nasty names for making things so bloody confusing.

Or maybe they did, it wouldn't surprise me. :graucho:

Thanks for the photos, they've been added to my collection. :smile1:

Than, you, ladies. I was thinking of leaving neutrals and dinging their stars, but I like confirmation.

Hopefully, future buyers will search this thread for libertystore, and come across my saga, and be careful. I'm glad it's over. Thanks again for all your advice!
Hi, not trying to play devil's advocate, but are you sure the seller packaged it the way it was received? I have had two cases of purchases being shipped through the Global Shipping Program, where Pitney Bowes opened the packages and crammed the items into a smaller envelope and box. They had removed all the packing material. It even says in their website they may repackage items. The one in the envelope had been packed by the seller in a box with bubble wrap and arrived looking like it'd been kicked down a football field. It really annoyed me because the seller's shipping rate was based on how she shipped her package to Kentucky as well as PB shipping rates that I paid and wouldn't be reimbursed for.

ETA: Oops, I just realized that you are in the US so the seller didn't use the GSP. Carry on!
