Hi, I had this bag authenticated privately, but I would like to also authenticate this bag here and ask about the closure. I purchased this bag from a consignment shop. It has the early slot and stud closure rather than the turnlock closure and was made in Italy. I was wondering when Coach made this kind of closure. I did a similar listing on ebay new with tags to compare to. Just wanted to ask advice on this closure and when it changed over to the turnlocks. Thank you
Greensboro bag, about 9" x 8" x 3.5"
Thank you

Since there are no date codes and no serial number it's impossible to say exactly when the closure was changed, but it was very early in production, and the early catalogs from that period weren't dated either unless they listed the year and season on the cover. The first catalog I have in my files with that style and with the slot and stud closure is what you show in post 66,890 and there's NO date information on the cover, just "1992 Edition":

scan0001.jpg

The next catalog IN MY POSSESSION is titled Fall 1992 Special Edition and shows the newer style closure, what I call the Sheridan turnlock. So some time in 1992? But styles with the old closure may still have been in the stores.

So since neither the bag nor the catalog(s) can be exactly dated, I'm not sure how we're supposed to narrow it down any more?

I love all the knowledge you bring!

Can this be looked at ? Thanks

Without a clear, readable photo of the creed and serial number, it can't be accurately authenticated, not by me and certainly not by "Authent*cate F*rst" either, unless the bag was actually in their possession and they could see and read the creed and number. If that was the case, they should have included a photo of those details on the "COA".

You could try contacting Goodwill to ask for a readable photo. They should know by now what kind of details are needed to assure their buyers of an item's authenticity.
