Please and thank you for authentication. This bag was a gift from a friend, who told me she bought it in 1979 for $29. From a department store called Meier and Frank. It's been in her closet for decades. If you can identify a style number, much appreciated for that info as well. No creed.
I'm not sure. I don't recall seeing one of these with a bottom center seam. Everything else looks fine.

Has anyone else seen one with a bottom center seam?
The first thing that caught my eye was the loose weave of the lining. (I've only seen such loosely woven lining on fakes.)

The second thing that bothers me is the location of the Coach logo. It appears to be a bit too high (from the bottom) and a bit too far to the left.

First picture is a closeup of @ConnieinSeattle's. Next 2 pictures are comps. (The picture of the red one is from a Berkley chunky case and the picture of the other is from a 7170 skinny case. But the lining should be the same.)

Thanks for looking at the tan pouch thing. Would more pictures help? The friend who gifted me this bag worked at the store when she was young (which sold Coach purses, which she remembers vividly)...and she told me she also used her employee discount at the time. I looked up the store Meier and Frank on Wikipedia and it was a large department store in Portland Oregon and the Pacific Northwest that had been in operation since the mid 1800's. I'll take a couple more photos of the interior for you.

Comments: Hello, I'm new here and just learned about this forum. I purchased this bag a few days ago, so I still have time to report it as non-authentic once it arrives. I had read that some Sheridan's do not have serial numbers and got excited by the receipt shown with it. I'm so happy this forum exists and I can ask here. Many thanks in advance!

Comments: Interested in this bag, but no serial number seems like a big red flag.

The magnification of the lining makes it easy to see the differences.

Well, it seems like you all think it's not legit. I appreciate your expertise. Maybe she's mistaken about where she got it? She seemed pretty certain, however, and she really wanted to give me a nice gift...because she likes me. (I gave her a Coach purse as well, one that I had done rehab on, which brought up the conversation in the first place). She said it was rarely, rarely used, and has been in her possession since 1979. Anyway, I was never intending to sell it. It's a gift. Thank you for looking.

This may be another problem. My lining is seamed in the corners rather than just continuing up the sides.
The magnification of the lining makes it easy to see the differences.
Although my chunky case was a Berkley, the lining across the bottom goes in the opposite direction.

Comments: Interested in this bag, but no serial number seems like a big red flag. If is a very old model, are there cases where some are missing numbers?

1- The Sheridan Monticello style 4226 is genuine, and the 1992 date listed by the seller fits.

2- Early Coaches up to about 1980 are not "Missing" serial numbers, they never had serial numbers. I don't see any problems with the bag although it may not be strictly "Cashin Era" since Coach doesn't seem to have been using stamped creeds when Cashin was designing for them. That partnership ended in 1974.

Creeds were used without any serial numbers for several years in the late 1970s or very early 1980s, it's hard to be exact about dates.

And there are other Coaches made since 1980 that didn't have serial numbers. The Sheridan you're asking about is a good example.

Both are authentic. The second one was made before serial numbers were used, probably in the mid 70s. Bonnie Cashin was no long associated with the company by then but she did have a hand in the design. The style isn't super rare as it was made for many years with slight variations, both earlier and later than when this one was produced.

Just nosing around on the internet, I found another that looks like mine (can't see bottom seam), which has stripe like mine. https://www.etsy.com/listing/971281506/vintage-coach-black-leather-zip-clutch References to a "make up bag."??
That one doesn't have a bottom center seam. It's a chunky case, which was intended to be used for makeup. There aren't a lot of details on these to make them easy to authenticate.

The direction of the stripes is not an issue as I've seen them both ways. This is what I meant by there being a corner seam. GEDC1708.JPG
