It's genuine, from around 1991-92. The seller's measurements are a bit smaller than Coach's, but no 2 people ever seem to measure a bag exactly the same. It's a Dakota Ranger bag, style 4201. The Dakotas were the direct ancestors of the Coach Sheridans. They're two of my all-time favorite Coach lines. Like the Dooneys they were "inspired by", the leather is stiffer than the softer cowhide used in other vintage Coaches, but they're almost indestructible.

There was an almost identical smaller version called a Dakota Rider, but the shape of the flap is slightly different. The larger Ranger also has a gusseted pocket under the flap.

Here's a Coach page about the Dakotas, click on the thumbnail to enlarge

Hyancinth, has anyone told you how wonderful you are? Thank you for sharing all that information with me. I appreciate you!

Authentic.

The only way I'd recommend donating would be if you cut the creed from the pocket and removed the hangtag and any other "Coach" markings. Otherwise, it keeps a fake in circulation waiting to fool another buyer.

Destroying and trash fill landfills so if you mark up the bag as "FAKE - NOT FOR RESALE," you could use it for a child's dress-up or other utilitarian use.

Authentic from 1996.

This one is fake.

Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate the expertise and advise. I'll let the seller know regarding the fake item. Is it the G plant for the year and style?

Good evening! I have been checking out the older kisslock bags, and when I saw this one, I jumped (without looking) because I liked the slim profile and the turn lock. Can someone please make sure that I didn’t make an expensive mistake?? :-s

Thank you in advance!!

Item: I am not certain what this bag is called

It's authentic. I don't know the name. I think it was made in the early 70s.

Hi Authenticators,

As you can see, I went a bit online shopping happy over the last month. I saw in some previous posts that the 9145 was highly copied and that G is also plant code that requires verification if made in the United States.

Can you please authenticate the following?

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

Item: Legacy Studio Flap

I suspect the seller, multiples_l knows it's fake because I just went to look for the listing and it was removed. I did pull up a cache of the listing and for those who may have missed it, I've saved pictures.

The G plant had a very unique font (different from the fake in question) and wasn't in operation in 1999.

If necessary, refer the seller here.

ANd if she's smart, she'll just issue a full refund and tell you to dispose of the bag. For her to pay return shipping for you to send it back from Australia to the US is throwing good money after bad.

Hi BeenBurned,

Thanks for all your legwork. I have sent the seller a message as per Ebay suggestion in the first instance. Once I have a reply I will direct her to this thread. I think I was a bit enthusiastic and purchased too many items before I did enough research.

Postage is often more than the cost of the bags from the States to Australia.

Have a good night.
