Hi,

Would you please review this backpack I recently purchased from ThredUp? I thought it was authentic, but after doing research I’m not sure. Thank you.

Your research did not mislead you, it's fake. The serial number is invalid. The plant code was never used for any US handbag plant and the date code for April 1996 is almost a full 2 years before that style was even introduced. Any kind of bags with a J plant code saying they were made in the US are fakes. The J plant code was only used for clothing items and then starting around 1999 was ONLY used by China.

Get your money back.

Hello,

Promised I would let you know about my correspondence with Shopgoodwill on the fake Winnie that we discussed on Sunday. Here is their answer:

Greetings,

Thank you for your recent order. For all Coach purses, we use Entrupy to verify the authenticity. This system will tell us if any counterfeit material was used in the making of an array of purses. Going forward, would you like to cancel this order?

Here is the auction ending price:

  • Product ID: 121566745
  • Number of Bids:16 (High Bidder: h******3)
  • Current Price:$176.00
  • Bid Increment:$1.00
  • Shipping Price:Estimate Shipping
  • Handling Price:$2.00
  • Seller: Goodwill of Greater Washington D.C.
    Viewcounter Pixel
  • Ends In: Auction Ended
  • Ends On: 5/16/2021 5:37:00 PM Pacific Time

I am so glad I found this site about two years ago. Without this site, that could have been me. Entrupy appears to be in its beta form. It appears to be learning to authenticate but it is not there yet. The only way to make AI better is for an informed human to correct it.

Well said, our wonderful Authenticators are lifesavers. Over the years I've become an enthusiastic Coach Bag Rehabber but that would never have happened if the TPF Authenticators weren't available to tell me if the bags I've found were genuine - and some of them were not!

But if they had an "informed human" they wouldn't need AI.

It sounds like they are implying that entrupy only verifies counterfeit materials. What makes a material counterfeit? Any counterfeiter can buy leather and hardware. They could even buy them from the same suppliers that Coach uses. It isn't until they add logos and creeds that the item becomes counterfeit.
