Item: vintage bag from the 80s, not sure of the style name. I would love to know the name if possible.

Where purchased or how obtained: My mom came over today and brought me a stack of purses my aunt didn't want anymore. This was at the bottom of the pile!

Comments: I think I have included everything needed. Approximately 11.5"×6.75"×3". Strap drop about 17".View attachment 4970611View attachment 4970613View attachment 4970614

It's an authentic Swinger bag #4040 from the Lightweights collection, probably made in the early 90s.

Hello Authenticators,
I purchased this little clutch from eBay and it has started tracking, so now I feel more comfortable to post it to avoid lurker complications. Lol..
I believe it is authentic, but still very confused with the style and materials details.
It looks more like Lizard skin to me, also style more like the one Katev got in 2019,
This listing has the same creed plaque as another eBay listing of an alligator clutch, except different number, yet totally different style.
Your expert opinion on this little bag is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Seller: kilevin
The other listing for comparison, it has more photos in description include creed photo.

ETA: link to the one Katev purchased
Also another NWT python clutch made in 1999, I have this one in hand

The bag looks fine. I couldn't find the stock photo for 6153 but I did find 6154 though you have the actual item, a better example than a stock image!

I see your problem. Is it possible that the People at the Italy plant screwed up totally and a creed for an Alligator bag was put into a Lizard bag? The one you bought does look more like lizard than anything else. But I can't find any gaps in the style numbers where a lizard bag from that collection would have fit in. I know some Gator scales are very small but these just seem too small and uniform to be Gator, and the bag details are very different.

I'm going to try and find official Coach photos for these styles, if the Wayback Machine will co-operate. Meanwhile here's hoping that anyone with more info especially original bags with tags or Wayback pages from 1999-2000 exotics or Limited Editions is welcome to chime in.

Dear authenticator, could you help me authenticate this coach purse?

Item: coach vintage legacy trail
Where purchased or how obtained: from Poshmark saler: @mercedesjackson

Thank you!!

It's authentic, made in 2000.

For future requests, refer to the post at the top of the page for the information we need for authenticity requests even when listings have ended.

mercedesjacksonhas (and had) a lot of Coach bags. Although I didn't look at all, I did find that she sold this fake:

Thanks @whateve! I was thinking the numbers beginning with 3 digits were earlier. It makes sense it is a lightweight, it feels really thin and floppy. I like it much better than the other lightweight I have. Crossing my fingers it won't have the same zipper issues! Yay, freebie! Thanks again :hugs:

Thank you sooo much for helping me check this purse!

It's authentic. There are a times that I've seen (mostly) wristlets without any "Coach" stamp or markings that are definitely made by Coach. It's infrequent that Coach would do it because (presumably) they do want their items recognized as Coach but I have seen it in the past. The made in tag is okay too.

Note that on the clip end of the strap, the leather covering either fell off or was removed from the metal clamp holding the end of the strap.

From what I see, all the items in the lot appear to be genuine Coach.

BB, it looks to me as if we have 2 very different bags both with 6153 metal creeds and different styling details. I don't have official photos or descriptions of any of those exotic reptile leathers in my files so I'm not sure which is the correct style for that number. Maybe they BOTH are. We've seen the Italian plant make some wacko mistakes before, and I have a feeling thiis may be one of them.

Ignore the Python bag photos and compare the 2 styles with the metal 6153 creed patches.

ETA - The one that LunaSilver just received looks like style 8190, see "the one that KATEV bought" that Luna included in her original post. I think the one Luna got either had the wrong creed put in at the plant, or it was changed afterwards. I haven't looked closely at the hardware yet, I'm still saving and organizing photos.

It might have been made in the late 1980s. The first catalog picture I have of the style is Spring preview 1989. Lightweights were made starting in 1987 but not all styles were released at once. We used to say that the 3-4 digits were used before the 4-3 digit variation, and they might have been, but I've seen styles I know that were released around 1992-1993 that have the 3-4 digit format, so they may have used both formats for a number of years.

Please note, this was never called a trail bag. A trail bag is a different style with a different style number. This was called Legacy small flap.

Thank you both so much. It won't surprise me that Italian screwed up the creed, still a little too messed up with limited number of plates, only 35 of them...the bag is authentic, that is most important.
Just noticed another detail, the limited edition exotic skin accessories made in 1999, the hardware closure has " Coach New York" , the ones made in 2000 hardware closure only has " Coach".
Since this listing only has " Coach" as well, it is the same as what Katev got, it is either Italian put on a wrong creed plate, or the seller use a different bag creed photo.

Luna, the one you just received was apparently either accidently or deliberately mis-labeled with the wrong creed and is actually the same style 8190 that Katev has.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was a plant screw-up. I owned (FIAT) AND sold (FIAT, Alfa, Lancia and Ferrari) Italian cars for 20 years, and the similar mistakes we would find in things like wiring were, according to the mechanics, likely tied to the days they were built and what was happening on those dates. Major holidays and ANYTHING involving any Italian team's appearance in any World Cup playoffs, semi-finals or finals would be very likely to result in assembly mistakes in cars made during those periods, probably tied to escessive celebrating (or sorrow-drowning) and a huge increase in absenteeism.

I'm going to look closer at the hardware to see if there's any evidence it's been changed but I'm pretty sure it originated at the plant. I don't know what your recourse is, but it's a fair price for that style 8190 bag if you like it. Just DON'T think about reselling it.

Here's the 8190 Wayback page:

ETA - I don't know exactly how those metal creeds were attached but in the photos at least it doesn't seem to have been fiddled with. An excess of Barolo is the likely villian here.

Did you get the bag yet? - NEVER MIND, I see you're just getting tracking info.

Hello again dear Authenticators,
I wanted to share a picture of the bag you looked at for me last week. I received it today and I'm happy it feels like my other legacy bag but it definitely doesn't have a serial number. Here's the picture of the full creed. Thanks again!!

Many if not most Swingpacks from that "burnished leather" period in the early to mid 2000 decade didn't have serial numbers.

Wow, thank you so much for taking all the time finding all the information for me. Italians are very passionate, that is both good and bad depend on the end result, lol...I do like the bag a lot and the price is very reasonable, it probably will get carried more, as the python clutch is too delicate, also I can not bring myself to cut off the tag..
This lizard bag just shipped today, at least 2 weeks before I get it.
The python clutch was bought in 2019.
ETA: I will post detail photos once received it.
