Several of his followers used to be tpfers. I never heard anything from them that they were dissatisfied with the forum. They just decided to leave one day. They asked me to join them many years ago, but I have never had a Facebook account and didn't want to create one.
There was some posting here a few months by a few of the mods and I did recognize a few avi's. The one vibe I got from the posts of the group that were public over the summer is that for the private groups, there was control over who could join. It was clear is they are not tPF-friendly. Or let's say, one person was vehemently anti-tPF and the others were okay with that. And with that one group going private, they spell it out in the list of questions they ask if you want to join. Not making this up.
I think too, by being private, they would authenticate listings for themselves, share their rehab tips and eliminate lurking of their posts/posted listings. But there was posting by a few of the leaders to even discontinue that, to eliminate "hurt feelings" if someone bought a bag someone else posted/requested AT for. And if any of them are lurking and think any of this is untrue, just go back to the summer, mostly July and August iirc and review the posts.

Hello all! I’m out thrift store shopping again! They have this super cool vintage briefcase but I can’t tell if it’s fake. Thank you in advance
Serial number G6C 5271

Curious... what was the wallet give away about?

Hello ladies ! Can you take a look at this bag . Thank you !
eBay
Seller Jennpol-1345

That bag is fake in spite of what jennpol-1345 tried to hide or photoshop out. She blurred the top 1/2 of the creed so much that it's illegible (or it's really blurred IRL) and the serial number appears to be edited out although I might be seeing an "o" from "No."

If you're the winner, cancel the purchase and get a refund.

ETA: Here are some pictures of the bag:
