Hi, did anyone find out if the bag in post 5638 was real? It's a poshmark listing of a leather open weave made in Italy bag. I didn't make the request but I was interested in its' authenticity. Poshmark only deals with US transactions so I'm not a threat to the original poster.:graucho:

This is adorable and I've never seen it before. Can someone authenticate/ID this bag? Please and thank you!

When there aren't any responses, it's usually because we can't authenticate it.

I'll speak for myself when I say that I wouldn't buy that bag.

Although the creed stitching and stamping don't scream problems, the lack of a serial number is a problem. I don't think it's a recent style being made sans serial numbers, I don't recognize a style even remotely similar to the open weave of this listing and if it's a sample, there's no way to authenticate it.

This seller doesn't call her bag a sample so I'm not implying that she's representing it as such, however we've seen bags/listings claiming to be "samples" with various creeds. (IMO, some of the sample stories were BS by dishonest sellers.) There have been creeds with and without serial numbers, bags without creeds at all, bags with creeds with serial and style numbers that conflicted with the era/year and style of the bags they were one.

We don't know how or even if Coach did "samples" and if they did, how they marked them as such and how one would know.

Re the bag on Poshmark from jasmindaily, I'd be interested in seeing more pictures, specifically a closeup of buckle hardware and any markings on it, a closeup of the tassel, a picture of any tags or content labels that might be inside the bag on a lining seam, etc.

I'd also like to know where the seller purchased it.

I'm guessing that the seller might consider these requests as coming from a PITA buyer but without answers, there's no way I recommend buying it because there's no way to authenticate it.

I've never seen it before. One problem I can see is that except for replacing the "nubuc" description with "natural full grain cowhide" it's exactly the same creed wording used on the old Sonoma Nubuc bags. And I don't see ANY evidence of "gentle tumbling" which is how Coach described the treatment used for the Sonoma pebbled leathers. That's NOT a pebbled leather and it doesn't look tumbled to me, it's as smooth as a baby's bottom.

Also it was my understanding that Coach closed their Italian plant some time around 2010-2011 so if it's a newer style, how could it have an Italy creed? And if it was from 2010 or earlier it should have had a serial number.

The white "x" in the corner of the creed is suspicious too, on newer bags starting from aound maybe 2005 any "final sale" mark like that should have been stamped in, not just marked with white pencil or chalk.

Even if there's a microscopic chance that it's genuine, I'd still want to see some other proof. Like BeenBurned said, we've seen a LOT of really hinky bags claiming to be factory samples, but so far not a single seller has ever been able to show ANY kind of receipt or proof of purchase. If Coach is selling bags at sample sales they had better be giving valid receipts showing that they're collecting the correct state and city sales tax - New York State AND NYC take a dim view of retailers who fail to collect their sales taxes.

Thanks, guys. It is definitely an unusual bag. I thought the stitching, etc. was impeccable but I know that means nada.

Thank you!

Sorry, I'm not comfortable trying to authenticate when there's no clear readable photo of the creed and serial number. I'm also concerned that in at least one of the photos, the strap looks like a slightly different color, although that might just be caused by the lighting.

They both seem genuine.

Always double-check the measurements given for Saddle Pouches, since they were made in three different sizes.

Thank you both for clarifying! I was interested in it partly because I hadn't seen any other designs even remotely like it coming from Coach and I thought maybe it was an item from a very limited production run or some such. I'm not sure if I'm interested enough in it right now to ask for more pictures, but if I do I'll definitely run it by you guys first.
