So here are pics of my Craiglist bag (link was removed by seller), about 12" x 8" x 4 1/2" - 5".
It does stink of mildew! But other than that, it is exactly what you see in the pics. As for color, I you look under flap, see the extreme fading. And as you see in the pic under the flap, up close, the piece of leather making up the front compartment appears to be, BT, with the piping also matching in BT. It is dry! So I am inclined to believe it was not a spectator style, but it is a dry-like-the-Sahara-dry BT. We have seen bags of a uniform color where for whatever reason, the tab and piping fade/did not fade like the body of the bag.
If it is a spectator style, or simply a this big old piece of distressed BT leather, I am in vintage rehab heaven   :girlsigh:

I can't comment on the original color but the bag is authentic.

Happy rehabbing!

Hello! Would it be possible to get some help authenticating a purse I thrifted several years ago? (Although, I suspect you smarties out there will tell me that this is a fake.) However you cut it, this bag is in pretty rough shape.

Item: Legacy Crescent Style 9718

Purchased: At a thrift shop a few years ago

Comments: I'm suspicious of this bag. It did not come with a leather hang tag - just two very different brass/gold tags. Most Legacy Crescents that I see online have a lighter color fabric lining the interior, but this bag has a black lining. Also, the grommets havworn silver. I know some hardware was only plated with brass, which could wear off, but my grommets seem cheap. I also think the stitching on the strap and the creed seem off. Finally, there was some hack repair job on this bag years ago on the backside pocket, which I only just noticed after pulling this purse out of storage. Trying to decide if its worth the effort to try and rehab or if I should just cut my losses.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Creed reads: This is a Coach bag. it is handcrafted in the United States of completely natural glove-tanned cowhide. The variations in the grain is characteristic of natural full-grain leather.
Serial number: H4F-9718

Sorry, it's fake. Some of the construction details are wrong, some of ths stitching is badly done, the hardware isn't what Coach uses, the serial number is invalid, and there are other problems too, like the crooked and badly sewn creed patch.

No, it's not worth rehabbing, you'd just be wasting your time and money. Counterfeits can't legally be sold or traded anywhere in the US or most other countries either.

Yep, it definitely needs some TLC! Not a Spectator, just very dried out, poor baby! The turnlock tab could have been cut from a different piece of leather and aged or took color differently, or just skin oils from regular use kept it in better condition than the rest of the bag. The color definitely is more BT than anything else but a bath should bring out it's "true colors" (cue Cyndi Lauper here)

Once you battle back the mildew it should rehab nicely. I'm looking forward to see it all cleaned, fluffed and buffed.
