I still can't get over the fact that they have faux leather bags. I think I'm in shock right now. I think I'll stick with the vintage and legacy bags for myself from now on but I'm thinking of posting this on ebay for the same price I paid and post it as faux leather so I can avoid return shipping fees. Maybe someone else would like it?? I dunno.
Ps. Here's the URL from original post. https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/107371137
I wouldn't call it faux leather. It is coated fabric that has an appearance close to patent leather. I think Coach called it patent fabric at one point.

I had a feeling you would know the history of this bag. Thank you so much for this information. After I saw your reply I thought omg I had a Poppy bag just like this that I didn't like either. Oh well. Live and learn. I will send the links next time too. Ps. I only paid $4.99 plus shipping so I think they knew what they were doing. Me, not so much. I'm definitely still learning. Pss. I do like the Nordstrom better. Thanks for sharing.

BTW, I hope you read the full thread from the second tPF post. There are comments and stories about color transfer being even worse with the Liquid Gloss than with real patent leather. Never put that black bag next to any other color, and always use a dustbag or even a pillowcase when storing it.

Here's the thread for anyone interested:

i agree that for what you paid, you got a decent deal. If you like the bag, I wouldn't get rid of it just because it's not leather.

If you plan to list it, I wouldn't suggest using "faux" in the listing because that can make the bots (or people who report and don't know what they're doing) report it as fake.

Instead, use "leather-like" and describe it as patent coated fabric. I think that's one of the choices ebay offers.

(Does anyone know if 'patent coated" is the same as PVC coated?)

ETA: Note to self: Complete reading before posting! (Although my reason for not using faux in the listing is slightly different from Whateve's.)

This is very interesting. Thank you. I'll remember this about the transfer. I might use it for a couple days. The straps look like the same leather straps I've seen before so that's good. I do feel bad the poor girl spent over $300 for her patent fabric. Yikes.

PVC is a specific type of vinyl or plastic or whatever it is, but the impression I have is that "patent coated fabric" can use a variety of coatings including, but not limited to, PVC. It would probably take a chemical analysis to know what the coating really is.

Hi everyone! I bought a ranch bag off eBay- excitedly - because this is a unicorn bag for me. I received it today and it has another suede panel in the bottom of the bag that runs from 3/4 the way up one side to the bottom and to 3/4 up the other side. When I pulled the panel back a bit I can see the seam on the bottom- now I’m wondering if it’s authentic or if that’s a modification that was done at some point? If anyone’s has a minute I can send pics.

Thanks BeenBurned. I'm going to try it out for a bit first but if I do post it, I know now not to use "faux". I never thought of the bots. You guys are the best!

Coated canvas is usually coated with PVC, isn't it? That has a completely different feel from liquid gloss. The liquid gloss is soft, like fabric, while coated canvas is rather stiff. I remember seeing liquid gloss in the store, and nearly every piece has some damage. It's very delicate.

I know, that would make me nuts. Well, nuts-ER. There's still a Poppy Liquid Gloss style or two on my Ebay watch list but every one I've seen that DOESN'T have some kind of color transfer or damage issue is priced as if the bag was real leather and not coated fabric. I'd rather spend the money on a nice, salvageable vintage "find" and know it's going to last a lot longer than I probably will. And the vintage bag's color won't "stick" to my clothes or to other bags.

That's completely normal. Mine has the same thing. If we authenticated it here, you can be sure it is authentic.

For $4.99 it's still a cute bag, but Coach should have been a lot more open about exactly what that material is. If you search "Coach Liquid gloss" on any selling site, almost every listing uses the word "leather" in the description, and that's Coach's fault.

At least you know that you don't have to worry about getting it wet.

ETA - And Goodwill actually lucked out and got the description right. "Unknown" is probably the best way of describing that fabric!
Yes, I won't have to worry about it too much. Lol. Ps. I thought you'd like that description. They must know your watching them. Haha. Thanks again Hyacinth!
