IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

As I researched I knew there should be more numbers there. But the creed is so lightly embossed that the only way I was able to read it was with a jeweler's loupe. I have looked and looked for more numbers but there is none. That's what's throwing me off - also that I haven't found that same wording on the creed in any of my research. Here's a closeup of the area where the number is. Hope this will help. Thanks!
I can't see anything else, but it kind of looks like "No." and "M". It should be similar to this one. It has the correct wording for that bag and everything else checks out. I think it is authentic.

Item: Coach Bucket Bag
Where purchased or how obtained - Friend's parents' estate
Comments: Having trouble verifying this bag. Only one 4-digit number on creed and verbiage is light and hard to read in pic. Here is text:
COACH
THIS IS A COACH BAG. IT WAS
HANDCRAFTED IN COSTA RICA
OF NATURAL FULL-GRAIN COWHIDE
THAT IS WATER RESISTANT AND
EXCEPTIONALLY DURABLE. GENTLE
TUMBLING PROVIDES A DISTINCTIVE
TEXTURE WITH NATURAL GRAIN
VARIATIONS.
4907

Thank you!

Just a quick detour to point out why doing research the way we see it involves keeping and using a large and comprehensive photo library, the two examples I'm showing were the first two photos from a Costa Rica plant using the "M" plant code that I found in my file. There are probably several others.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that stamp OR that bag other than that it wasn't stamped deeply enough, the top layer of the leather patch is deeply and heavily textured which probably would have made stamping it much harder than these 2 examples and the example that Whateve posted. It happens.

Hi Hyacinth,
I was reading this forum and noticed people still ask for Coach authentication for bags with COAs from shopgoodwill. I never thought I had to worry about those bags. Do I?
Thanks,
Anne
I'm not Hyacinth but we've seen many mistakes on COAs, particularly those done by Entrupy, who does a lot of the authentications for Goodwill.
In addition to Whateve's comments, I'll add my answer as well.

Yes.
You need to worry a LOT!!

In fact, this has been going on so long that there's a separate thread on the ebay subforum that I started in March, 2019. And that thread (at 6 pages so far) doesn't include all the mistakes they've made.

I don't remember what I had for breakfast but I do remember the discussion (from last May).

The seller did have a listing in which the bag was fake but it was an item that she'd purchased from Goodwill and she bought the bag assuming that the Entrupy "authentication" was dependable.

The seller is a member here although at the time of the posts, I didn't know her seller ID. She contacted me after my post explaining where she purchased and why she made the mistake (i.e., trusted Entrupy) and has not made other mistakes prior or since.

This is another example of an Entrupy mistake not only ripping off a trusting buyer but of potentially damaging a seller's reputation because of ENTRUPY'S error.
Thank you Been burned for this clarification!

BB~

Thank you for clarifying what happened and for explaining the facts of that unfortunate mistake.

I believe all buyers should do their research, due diligence and ask for authentication here before buying Coach bags. This is only one of the reasons why the free authentication services offered here by you and others are indisputably helpful and SO valuable.

I felt a twinge of sadness seeing the comment "this seller has a history" and knowing it referenced me. That stung a little!

You don't have a history! Anyone who searches your name will see that you were duped by Entrupy, corrected the problem, and learned from the (Entrupy's) mistake. You clearly demonstrated your integrity and that response will appear upon each search of your name - which we are asked to do before posting an authentication request. You are one of the honest sellers that buyers can trust. It is Entrupy that we cannot trust
