Hello Authenticators! Thank you for all that you do! I am recently getting into vintage Coach bags and had a couple authentification requests:

1. this is a bag I just bought on Poshmark:
Link: https://posh.mk/1eHm3Igz69
Seller: ghettobuster
Bag style: Willis bag

2. this is a bag I just sold on Poshmark. I bought it at a thrift store for more than I sold it for and sold it with multiple disclaimers that the authenticity of the bag was unverified. I also recommended to the buyer in private messages to come here for authentication if that is important to them:
Link: https://posh.mk/UgkKYasz69
Seller: sonnysulouff (me)
Bag style: 9975

3. This is a bag I like and am considering buying:
Link: https://posh.mk/aVhXp3Bz69
Seller: monalisa_posh
Style: Legacy, 9965

4. This is another one I’m considering (I’m in law school and love the idea of a “court” bag):
Link: https://posh.mk/rvjwkqMz69
Seller: whitemice
Style: Court bag

thanks so much!!!

1. I can't read the creed clear enough to make a decision.
2. obvious fake. You owe the buyer a refund. It is illegal to sell fakes even if you include a disclaimer.
3. authentic
4. authentic.

1. I will upload a picture when I get it.
2. I will reach out to the buyer and let them know. I genuinely didn’t know if it was or wasn’t fake, just cleaning out my closet.
3 & 4. Thanks!

I'll apologize up front for my rant directed at a newbie but because it's Poshmark, I'll blame it on my feelings toward that site.

Poshmark has a long history of non-action when fakes and fraud are reported, incorrect authentications when buyers get fakes and Poshmarks "authenticators" deny the buyers refunds because the "experts" deem those fakes as authentic, sellers are wrongly accused of selling fakes when it fact, it's poshmark's "experts" who don't recognize and authentic item, and the banning of members who tell sellers that their items are fake.

And for those reasons, I don't authenticate or support Poshmark and in fact, recommend against doing business there for most purchases and sales. Few items are so rare that they can't be found on more legitimate sites and sellers.

As for your listing of the bag, the bag IS fake and in fact, is ILLEGAL to sell PERIOD, disclaimers or not.

Even if Poshmark doesn't do diddly squat in response to reported fakes, their policies to prohibit counterfeit items in accordance with US trademark law.

If you're an honest seller, you should (IMO) refund the buyer the $25 plus $7.11 shipping and tell her to destroy the bag to take it out of circulation.

ETA: Here's their policy:
Community Guidelines - Poshmark

And the applicable section:
WHAT POSHMARK IS NOT FOR
Counterfeits
Not only is the sale of counterfeits and unauthorized replicas of branded products prohibited on Poshmark, but it is also illegal. If the product you are listing bears the brand or logo of a company or designer, but it wasn't made or authorized by that company or designer, this item is not permitted. If you cannot verify the authenticity of an item, please do not list it on Poshmark. Additionally, using a company's name or trademark in a way that may confuse buyers about the item's origins, or confuses buyers into believing that you or the item is affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the trademark owner is both illegal and a violation of our policies. Members who buy or list replicas or fakes risk immediate and permanent suspension from Poshmark.

Hi there, I just uploaded a photo of my message to the seller. I offered her a refund (Poshmark refunds shipping as well for cancelled orders). I have no problem refunding buyers and have done so before. As I stated previously, I was just cleaning out my closet- my interest is SOLELY in buying vintage Coach, not reselling as a hobby. I only buy things I plan to keep.

Your message to the buyer is one that is seen so infrequently on Poshmark, thus my cynicism. I appreciate your response!

Since you bought the bag years ago, it's unlikely that you can get a refund from the store from which you purchased so for the you to pay for return shipping on an item you (nor the buyer) can resell is a waste of money. (And if the buyer has to pay to return it, that doesn't seem fair either.)

Is there a way on PM for sellers to just issue a full refund?

I don't believe so... I bought it at a thrift store here in Chicago years and years ago. I honestly didn't care if it was authenticate, I just liked that it was navy. I was reselling it just to make room in my tiny studio apartment for me to buy more bags I don't need - I'll just keep it. Got some good memories with that bag anyway, fake or not :)

PS neither of us will have to pay for shipping. Poshmark issues shipping labels for free for cancellations/refunds
