Hello everyone, Would you please authenticate this bag? I am not familiar with the style either. https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-coach-brown-leather-shoulder-bag-5b60a519194dad0d14d1e66b

Also, I found a vintage Coach National Guard Money Clip and I am wondering if that is authentic. The seller has items from the 1960's with no markings. https://poshmark.com/listing/Vtg-19...her-Moneyclip-Wallet-5e7697d1abe1cec63b92516c

The bag is a genuine Mulberry Bag from the 1991-92 Carriage Classics line, style number 9899.

As for the money clip, I don't see anything on it that would identify it as a Coach. I don't even know why the seller thinks it is. There's NO way to authenticate it. Do you see any Coach marks on it? That seller has a number of items they're selling as Coach or Possibly Coach and don't have any Coach logos or marks. I would definitely use caution buying from " lmgriffiths " on Poshmark.

No, I don't see anything. They also have a NYPD passport wallet & another wallet they claim Coach created and said to search "Water Buffalo 66" yet I found no connection between Coach & the items listed.

Yes, I saw those too. I've never seen that stamped water buffalo logo on any confirmed Coaches, and the few items that include a "water buffalo" branded box with the same stamping don't mention Coach anywhere on the box. Coach would have used their own boxes, NOT some other company's "water buffalo" packaging. Anything with that bull logo being listed as Coach or Possibly Coach is highly suspect. Even the leather grain isn't like the water buffalo leather Coach uses. Ebay would remove them as Keyword Spamming at the very least. Poshmark doesn't give a fig.

lmgriffiths on Poshmark has some interesting items but some listings are misleading, including that National Guard item.

I agree that it doesn't appear to be Coach.

@Hyacinth - after reading your comments, I looked at lmgriffiths 's other items and I'm very curious about this one (already sold).

I don't think this one was made by Coach and if so, certainly not in the 50s or 60s! Notice the HAC logo in one of the pictures.

Yep, I noticed that too. I'm going to dig through the pictures of older pre-handbag items from the Archive and see if there's anything similar, but I don't remember any other Carriage logos. And would Coach have useed vinyl linings for that type of toiletry case, especially while they were still owned by the Cahns?

ETA - I stand corrected on the Carriage logo. I don't know if or when it was stamped into the early Leatherware products but it was definitely used in their early advertising, check the Coach Screed site:

Aaaaaand, I came across a new-to-me history of Coach that confirms Miami as the B plant and used mostly to make the Lightweights.

@whateve, you might want to check out this link too if you don't have it already, it adds more information to what was already published on the Fundinguniverse site:

From her blog:

Throwback Thursday TBT: Early Vintage Coach Cosmetic Toiletry Dopp Kit
DEBORAH BARROS

Continuing the TBT trend, this is another bag that I have ready to send to my friends at the Coach Archive in NYC. This is a very early toiletry kit… it is the same leather, binding, and lining of the 50’s suitcase that I previously sent to Jed Winokur. It’s a GORGEOUS piece of Coach history. It shows the early craftsmanship of Coach and has one of the very first tags that Coach used on their bags. I have seen a tag cut in the shape of a steer’s head… it seems to be have been made from the top portion of this tag. Which came first… steer head, steer hide, baseball? Who knows…it’s part of the legacy and mystery of the early Coach days! This kit is also interesting in that it has the first stagecoach logo. I haven’t seen that on a very early bag. It will be interesting to see what Jed has to say about this little beauty. I’ll update once he’s had a chance to look at it.

I found a similar style in one of those early 1960s ads too, it was called a Vagabond but I can't get a decent copy of the ad. It's also on the Coach Screed page. No close up though, or anything showing if it's the same style as the one Debi posted. The lining color looks the same but I can't tell if it's vinyl although it's possible. So the PM listing for that item is probably genuine. Scroll down the link to the Coach Screed from my previous post to the first line of photos and enlarge the one on the upper left corner. Or scroll down the actual Coach screed page just a bit to the early ads.

The "water buffalo"-branded items are another story.

Thanks! I already had the bottom link but the other one is very interesting.

I'm very surprised about the horse and carriage logo. Why haven't we seen other items with it? It appears to have the same plastic binding as one of my Bonnie Cashin era bags. It has a brown zipper although older items we've seen usually have black or navy zippers. I've seen the glove tanned cowhide stamp on a Bonnie Cashin era wallet.

Ok, I can not for the life of me read this creed so I have no way of knowing if it is authentic, but you experts might be able to tell from other features so I’m giving it a shot.
