It's a Sheridan Mayfield style 4224 from 1992 or 1993.

The Dakotas were the first of the pebbled Dooney look-alikes, were unlined, and had a square grain, like little boxes. Maybe the unusual grain was to distinguish them from Dooneys? (At least I THINK the Dooney AWL was a rounded grain, I've never owned one.). Dakotas had the old style 4+3 all numeric serial numbers and sometimes had no serial numbers at all, and were made between 1991 and 1993. The inside pocket was usually some kind of suede.

The Sheridans came a year later and were lined with a taupe color grosgrain-type fabric, with the typical rounded grain of most Coach pebbled leather. They were introduced in 1992 and discontinued in late 1994 or maybe very early 1995 and could have a variety of serial number configurations including no number at all. The one kind of serial number they would never have is the 5 or 6 number fake Korean serial without the "No" in front of it, there were a lot of Korean fakes trying to look like Sheridans.

Here's a catalog page showing both the Mayfield and the Glenwood, the Mayfield is the smaller one:

Hi everybody,
Would you please authenticate this bag.

Item: Coach Court Bag.
Measurements: Approximately 8" high x 9 1/2" wide x 3 1/4" deep. Strap drop approximately 19".

I am wondering if this is from the late 1980s or early 1990s. Does the "Made in the United States" in the bottom line go along with this numerical format (meaning 4 numbers -dash- 3 numbers)? From the pics I've seen on this site, it appears to, but I am unsure. From reading Hyacinth's serial number guide, this appears to be the case. I'm trying to learn more about this time period. Thank you in advance for your insights.

The 4+3 number format pretty much ran from 1990 to 1993, although some earlier 3+4 serials managed to sneak through. It's hard to pin dates from this time period down exactly but so far I haven't seen any reason to modify those dates, they were already modified at least once from the original posting of the Salearea Guides in 2011-12. The bag in your post is early 1990s.

Made In The United States creeds were used between 1988 and 1993 with some carried over another year or two until the plants that used them finally received their new creed stamps. The Made In U.S.A. creeds were mostly from the late 1980s and seem to have been used almost exclusively for the Lightweights line. There are quite a few mixed formats and overlapping among the 1994 to 1996 serials and creeds. Nothing should be assumed fake from that time period just because the serial and creed combo isn't in the usual format, but they should definitely be looked at here.

I can show a couple of examples of Dooney AWL from different items. I'm not sure how this compares to Dakota or Sheridan textures.Screen Shot 2020-09-16 at 3.02.36 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-09-16 at 3.04.34 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-09-16 at 3.04.47 PM.png

Thank you for these insights and for the verification. This level of detail makes it all the more interesting for me (and I'm sure for other readers) and I really appreciate you taking the time to write this.

Thanks also for talking about the particular "Made in U.S.A." creed as well because that was another question that I had about that period. This is giving me an opportunity for me to learn so much more about this brand. I feel that for me personally I've had an easier time learning the formats for the later 1990s bags (where the words "United States" are integrated into the body of the creed).

But I find that I am questioning myself when I see the "Made in the United States" creed. More specifically, I pose the question to myself: "but was this particular model of bag made back in 1989/90." Which is why this forum is so helpful.

Thank you again, Hyacinth.
