  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Good idea. If there aren't any Coach logos stamped anywhere into the leather, then it's almost 100 percent sure it's not a Coach. Their smaller leather goods (SLGs) will always have their name stamped permanently into the leather. If the only "proof" that it's a Coach is the hangtag, that's not enough, it's disgustingly easy to add a real (or fake) Coach hangtag to a generic bag. That's why they're useless for authentication purposes.
Actually I've found quite a few small Coach items that had no Coach markings - several wallets, wristlets and a swingpack. But they had the familiar brown made in label.

Thinking about this. Will someone look when you have a moment?
Are the underside of the grommets supposed to look like that or should they be solid rings? What color do you think it is? The seller said they did not know for sure if it was BT that has been darkened over time or if it is truly a darker shade.

Seller: eqcat017
Item: Patricias Legacy

It's authentic. I don't know about the grommets. It looks darker than BT.

I believe Coach used both, and we've all seen both. I've never seen any comments from ANY authenticators, qualified or not, that the underside of the grommets had any relation at all to authenticity.

The one thing the grommets shouldn't be, unless the strap is a poorly chosen replacement, is a completely different color than the rest of the bag's hardware.

And the bag itself is genuine. If the bag is genuine and the strap is original, then the grommets are genuine.

Thank you both. I won't let that make me avoid other potential listings.

I would like to get a small duffel type bag to store things inside larger bags and have had my eye on these little Costa Rica 9844s. That other one was just a tad smaller and cheaper so I was curious.

First of all I want to add a quick reminder.

We don't recommend buying from Poshmark. I know many buyers prefer it, but many members here have had some bad experiences especially when fake items were involved. If you had bought that small tan pouch that the seller claimed was a Coach and found out later that it wasn't, you probably would have had to fight tooth-and-nail with PM to get your money back Many members here have had to do the same and sometimes never succeeded. Poshmark's record regarding keeping their site clean of fakes and making every LEGITIMATE effort to make things right for people who bought fakes frankly STINKS. There are examples all over tPF and not just of Coach products. So please ALWAYS have anything you're thinking of buying there authenticated here before you buy.

As for your question
1- genuine. This is how that style of pouch you almost bought earlier SHOULD be constructed. BTW, if the seller never contacted you with measurements, my records show that this style measures 6x4 inches, it's called a Legacy West Demi
2- genuine, I'd need to see the serial number to ID it
3- genuine, same style as the first one

Thanks so much for your advice and information, Hyacinth! I’m so glad to have found this thread and the service you and the other authenticators offer. I started with the bags and then went through the restoration thread, so I’m kind of working backwards in my acquisition of knowledge as I stock up before going overseas again. I wish I had found you all when I lived in the states and frequented thrift shops before my children arrived! Take care and I’ll be back again before any more purchases.

Dearest Knowledgeable Ones...

Me again. With my latest adventure. Please would you take a moment to review and hopefully authenticate...

Name: Slouchy Vintage Bucket Bag (I think it’s a Duffle Sac?)
Purchased from: Vinted (UK)
Seller: Peta-ann
Comments: Pretty beat up condition, images are in-hand before any attempt at rehab. Bag is monogrammed “VLW” and seller unable to provide any provenance (probably picked up at a car boot/charity shop). Leather feels heavy and quality. Zipper foot appears to be stripped or possibly a replacement?
Measurements:
Base - 9” diameter (round)
Length - 13”
Strap - 37”
Buckles - 2” x 1 3/4“
Zipper Leather Pull - 6 cms

If it is authentic, please could I have some guidance on the year and the colourway?

Many thanks in advance of your time, as always. And apologies...I have no idea why the images have uploaded in such a random order and not the right way up. Doh!

Genuine Duffle Sac style 9085 and made in the late 1980s.

There's no good way to determine the color, Not only did Coach at least 3 different shades of tan and brown during that period, but on a vintage bag that's seen as much use as this one that that was probably never washed, there's no way to see the actual original color until it's been thoroughly washed and conditioned. It might even be Mahogany or one of the reddish colors. Once that's done you can ask at either the Vintage Chat or Rescue and Rehab threads on the main forum to figure out what color it is. You'll probably see a noticeable color change after washing and conditioning.

Or you can use this color chart from the 1989 Spring catalog, use the Coach Classics category. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.

Here's the item description and color availability for that year from the same catalog, Sorry, I don't have any 1988 catalogs so I'm not sure if the available colors were the same. The Vintage thread posters will know.

@Hyacinth Thank you so, so much! I am learning so much from TPF, but in baby steps.

I will wash (“dunk”) and condition it this weekend and see what beauty emerges. Will head over to the Rehab pages for help thereafter.

Thank you also for your generosity in sharing those catalogue images, I could pore over them for hours and hours.

Stay safe. Zoe x
