Hi! I’m new to the vintage coach scene, and I’m worried I’ve made a few rookie mistakes. Can you please take a look at these bags to confirm if they are authentic? All were purchased on poshmark. I’d really appreciate your help!

Item: “Vintage Black Coach “9944”
Listing number:
Seller: _bluescloset
Link: https://posh.mk/tqbJGiJdk7
Comments: I’m thinking this bag is fake because it says “made in the United States” under the creed, but the serial number suggests it was made in 1995. I thought the origin was included in the second sentence of the creed if the bag was made after 1994. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Item: Coach Nottingham 9948
Listing number:
Seller: audreysfine

Comments: same concerns as the one above.

Item: Vintage Coach Willis Bag
Listing number:
Seller: teeeny
Link: https://posh.mk/xx9w1Vvek7
Comments: I’m concerned about this one because the serial number doesn’t have a hyphen

First and second are authentic. Third is fake. Coach transitioned to the new creed wording with origin in the body of the creed starting in 1994. The plants didn't all get the new stamp at the same time. There are a few made in 1996 creeds that still have the old style creed.

Thanks so much. Did you know the Willis bag was fake because the serial number doesn’t have a hyphen?

Hi, please kindly authenticate the following:

Item: Nottingham/Canterbury bag
Seller: potato111 on Carousell SG

Comments: the pictures of the creed are below. It's to the side though. And there's no serial number to speak of. I don't know what to make of this so do let me know your thoughts on it. The dimensions look to be approx 11"x 9". Thank you.

Not all serial numbers have the same details, don't ever judge one serial number based on one from a different bag, or made in a different plant, month and year. There are problems with the stamping itself in the Willis and it has nothing to do with the lack of a hyphen. Some genuine bags have missing hyphens, and a few have an extra one. The key is in knowing exactly which details a serial stamp from that precise month, year, plant and style is SUPPOSED to have and exactly what it's supposed to look like. That can only be done using a library of photos of all the hundreds of possiblities found in genuine bags for comparison. That's why authentication should be done only by people with that kind of resource,

I can't see any photos at all from the listing. What I CAN see is that there's no serial number which is a huge problem, and that the word that should be spelled "scrAtches" in the creed is actually spelled "SCRTCHES". The badly off-center creed is also a problem. We've seen other fakes being sold on the Carousell site, never buy anything there unless it's authenticated here first.

It's fake, I hope you didn't buy it.

Hmm that's strange that the pics cannot be viewed. i'm not sure if it's blocked based on location because i get that on ebay.

And no worries I didn't buy it. I'm still waiting on two refunds because the seller insists that it must reach her first before she refunds me even though we both agreed they are fakes. And she also accused me of being a serial returner even though she has no right to say such a thing  Thank you so much for the authentication @Hyacinth and appreciate your eagle eyed observation on the spelling.

We've seen dozens of fakes with the "SCRTCHES" misspelling over the years so it's one of the first things we look for in vintage creeds. It's always fake, no exceptions.

And it's always better to authenticate BEFORE buying than after. Too bad that some sellers can't be bothered to do the same thing.

I'm not sure if his bag is fake or not. I haven't seen one without numbers on the creed. The seller doesn't seem to believe it's authentic either.
Her description is an authenticity disclaimer of sorts, illegal and disallowed by Mercari (and every other site) although many sites don't act on reports.

The bag may be authentic but you'll need to request a picture of the white label/tag that's probably hidden inside an interior pocket. She may have to pull the pocket inside out to find and photograph it.

I was thinking her description went against Mercari policy.

Thank you for getting back to me quickly! I requested a picture of the label/tag.

I wonder what would make the bag feel "waxy"? Maybe something someone cleaned it with?

I suspect it's the nature of the textured leather. I've read other complaints about it.
