You are correct. The bag is counterfeit.

Why can't you file a dispute? How did you fund the payment? If the seller isn't honorable and won't stand behind her item and if you used a credit card, you can open a dispute through the c.c. company.

If you think it'll help, refer the seller here.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply, Etsy policy says that I can’t file a claim if items has been altered in anyway. I just washed this purse. It looks better than how it was but, it’s been tampered with now. I washed it quickly in case it was exposed to Covid 19.
Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

While under "normal" circumstances, altering an item would void buyer protection, however in this case, I call BS Etsy's response. Every doctor and the CDC encourage sanitizing/laundering/cleaning items brought into the home from unknown conditions.

You did the right thing and should not be penalized for it.

How was the payment made? Did you contact the seller?

If allaboutboutique made a sincere "honest" mistake in selling a fake (which I question based on your comment about removing the creed picture), she will offer profuse apologies and issue a full refund.

Hi I am trying to contact seller, site having connection issues. You are correct these are not ordinary circumstances, I should be entitled to a full refund, I was sold a fake item. I agree I think the seller found out about, a potential buyer might had said something, she was selling two purses the one bought and the Patricia Saddle bag, they were both $265 at one time. She also reduced the price on that one to $65 it might me a fake too. Seller also removed, the creed picture for that one. All her other Coach purses have the creed pictures. I paid with PayPal, I am going to start with the seller, if she refuses to give me a refund, I will contact Etsy and finally if I am not able to resolve this matter, I will open a claim in PayPal. What a mess, this is the first this happened to me. Lesson learn here. Thank you so much for time and advice.

I contacted seller and and she told me that she will not accept return this is what she said quote
“No, I am sorry. I can not accept your return. One - i did not claim its was a Coach, listing item was- vintage bag.
Two- I I would not accept something that was washed. WhenI called her on her BS, she said the following: “I did not miss re represented anything. Where did I claimed that it is anything but "Vintage item" You want to think the best intention of people and that everyone is doing the best they can and are ethical sellers, but it is so disappointing to see that it is not. I opened a claim with Etsy, I hope they practice good judgment and are Ethical. I felt I was wrongEd and taken advantage by this seller.

ETA: I think this is/was the listing:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/573371...r?show_sold_out_detail=1&ref=anchored_listing

ETA #2: Hmm. It's interesting that most of the seller's Coach items show creeds and those (that I looked at) with creed pictures are authentic. But there are a few, including this fake0 without creed photos. I wonder if the seller knew they were questionable (at best) or fake (at worst).

ETA #3: I take that back. She has this fake:

Obviously, lotforme Owner of allaboutboutique knew exactly what she was doing. What she doesn't understand is that selling a bag with a brand name marking but not made by that company is illegal. It doesn't matter if she removed the picture of the creed, it doesn't matter that she didn't claim it was Coach, it doesn't matter that she just described it as a "vintage" item and although she didn't make this claim, it wouldn't have mattered if she claimed not to know if authentic or that she couldn't guarantee authenticity.

The fact that she has other fakes and her response to you and your valid claim means that she's not a seller with whom I would want to do business.

You tried to handle the dispute without getting the site or paypal involved and she didn't prove to be a seller who would do the right thing. Go ahead and open the paypal dispute, making it clear that she illegally sold a counterfeit item. You might also include this information from Etsy's site stating that counterfeit items are illegal:

Prohibited Items Policy
5. Illegal Items, Items Promoting Illegal Activity, and Highly Regulated Items

MORE DETAILS:
Counterfeit or unauthorized items are prohibited on Etsy. We consider counterfeit or unauthorized goods to be items that imitate an authentic good, particularly by using a brand’s name, logo, or protected design without the brand owner’s consent. Examples of prohibited counterfeit or unauthorized goods include replica luxury bags and branded apparel.

Wow, I had no idea had other fakes, she knows exactly what she is doing

Thank you for all this great information I had no idea that she had other fakes. There was another purse listed and that suspected it was fake because the same thing she reduced the price to $65 and at one point she had the picture of the creed too it had the J8Y number, I was going to report it and post the link in this forum, however the seller just took down that listing. Thank you again for everything, you had been extremely helpful, Sincerely, Lucy

Hi, I found this website on how to read
Thanks dear! The temptation to get both is real. But you save me.

Thanks again and stay safe!
Hi, I found this link to be a good guide on interpreting Coach Creed. I think first letter and number is the year and month and last letter what Coach Plant is was produced, last 4 numbers is the style.

DO NOT USE THAT GUIDE!! It's full of incorrect information and has been discussed here in the past.

Accurate information will be found right here on this forum, pinned to the top of the Coach page:

When you have time I'd be happy if you took a look at this.

Item number: 392782631799
Seller: everydaythings71

ETA: Interestingly, she has a close-up of the scratches/indentations on the ebay listing, but not on the Etsy one.

It's authentic. It's a Mitchell zip. It is supposed to have buckled straps.
