Authentication question!
If there are indentions on the underside(like in picture) it's always a fake? Or am I incorrect?
I'm in an argument with a woman right now that her bag is an extremely well faked casino bag. Mainly because of the indentions and also the coach hangtag is splitting. I'm just curious because unless I've misunderstood from here the indentions are a dead give away?

It isn't always a dead giveaway. The turnlock could have been replaced with a different brand. When the bag was manufactured, the turnlock would not have those indentations. There are some briefcases that were manufactured with turnlocks with indentations.

A splitting hangtag doesn't mean anything. The creed is the most important thing. Without a creed picture, I can't confirm whether the bag is fake or not.

That's what I was thinking. I mean unless it was replaced.
She said it was her mother's and it has never been worked on. Idk. Lol it's not worth going on about.
I was mainly wanting to know for myself. I always looked for indentions on turnlock when I look at the vintage ones from my Goodwill. I misunderstood and bet I've put back quite a few authentic ones. Lol they don't let me take pictures at my Goodwill(no clue why)so I would have to buy it then take pictures.
Either way, that's really good to know! Thank you.
I'll have to start sneaking pictures before I buy them just to make sure. Lol

I can't remember ever seeing an authentic bag with indentations on the turnlock. The number of authentic Coach with replaced turnlocks must be very small. If you aren't really good at determining authenticity from the creed and other details, the indentations on the turnlock is a good method to eliminate bags that are likely fake. Just remember that some fakes have correct looking turnlocks.

Oh good! That means I might not have been that unlucky then. Lol
I honestly go by my gut usually. If it feels off and looks off, I don't bother with it.
I think I'm going to see if I can make a deal with the ladies at my Goodwill to let me authenticate them before buying and if they're fakes to have them destroyed. Even coming from Goodwill it's not fair for people to buy them. At least in my opinion.

I'm hoping you can help. Usually I have a pretty good eye on what's authentic and fake when I am looking at purchasing Coach bags but this one has me stumped. Looking up the serial number E042-4449, I have found similar bags but the dimensions for those are a couple inches bigger than this one. I'm also not sure whether this bag has a nylon or neoprene exterior. Please help if you can. Thanks!20200226_191001_HDR.jpg

I've never known a Goodwill employee to care if an item they sell is authentic or not. But Goodwill stores usually take returns. I doubt they would destroy them on your sayso.
