Can I get your expert opinions on this bag please?

Item: hinged bag
Serial: D2C-9990
Seller: lorac2015

Comment: the shape of the bag looks wrong. It doesn't taper smaller on top. The serial number font looks unusual for plant C. Then there's that rectangular block end stamp.

It's fake. (I just posted a different *2C fake from a different seller on the HOS!)

I'm pretty sure that the C plant wasn't even in operation in 2002.

image.jpg image.jpg I bought a Coach bag off of Poshmark. I just have a feeling it’s not real. Can someone help me? The reason I’m questioning it is the leather path is only sewn on 2 sides and not all the way around and a small piece of plastic stuck under the hardware. And the tag is on the strap and not on the bag itself like I see on other bags this style. It’s a Billie pebble backpack. Thanks

thanks a bunch, and thanks to @houseof999 !

Several more problems in case the seller "pursedujour" needs more proof. Obviously the brand of the zipper doesn't mean a thing. The "A" in Coach is also meaningless, as is brass hardware and "Coach" stitching. Neither can ever be used to prove authenticity.

The entire serial number font is wrong for any bag from the "D" plant from June 1994, the padding at the top of the turnlock tab is crooked, and I'd very much like to see a clear close-up of the back of the metal turnlock, the part that has the 4 prongs holding it, the photo in the listing is small but may show a possible problem. But one of the biggest red flags is that the serial number indicates the bag was made in June 1994, but that style wasn't even introduced until the Holiday 1994 catalog. The lead time between the alleged manufacturing date and the style's actual introduction seems too long. The Coach logo in the creed is missing the word "LEATHERWARE". And another VERY big problem - genuine 9954 Prairie Bags DON'T have any seams in the panel making up the base, neither in the center nor near the corners, unlike most Coaches. There are no vertical seams in the bottom panel at all. But the seller's photos clearly show a vertical seam in the center of the panel making up the base.

But the incorrect serial number font is absolute proof that the bag isn't genuine,

Below is a photo of a GENUINE creed and serial number with an F4D- serial prefix:

ETA - Here's an enlargement of the fake bag's creed:

Oh, the irony!

It would have take just a bit of research for lorac2015 to learn that the listing above is fake. But her "expertise" not only had her "knowing" that the bag is authentic (not!) but she also has "guides." And in many of the "tutorial" listings, she calls out other sellers with fakes!

Tutorial: https://poshmark.com/listing/VINTAGE-COACH-BAG-TUTORIAL-5d33ba4eadb58dcfb22f9c2b
@Hyacinth: she even stole your work without giving credit: https://poshmark.com/listing/THESE-ARE-NOT-VTG-Coach-Serials-5c9cacc6d6dc52718825b3f4

In the above post with Hyacinth's work, she even has this comment: lorac2015 @geminigewls. Lots of fakes out there! If they see their names tagged to these lists maybe they will be honest.
Maybe LORAC2015 will be honest and end her fake D2C-9990 listing!

Another for which @Hyacinth doesn't get credit: https://poshmark.com/listing/VINTAGE-COACH-BAG-TUTORIAL-5d4f1591689ebcc4c445d1a4

ETA: To lorac2015's credit, she did end the listing.
Yes, she did end the listing. She means well and doesn't sell fakes knowingly. Most of her items I believe she gets them checked by the members of a Facebook group. I am in that group as well but I rarely go on Facebook for anything so I don't see everything that goes on there. I agree she should give credit where it's due though.
