For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:

    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:

  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Good morning authenticaters. At thrift and wondering if this vintage coach is authentic. Was it made in this mustard color? Creed K6c-4157. Thank you again.
Pictures are necessary to authenticate.

The only time it's possible to authenticate a bag without pictures is when the bag has an invalid serial number making it an obvious fake. Nothing other than pictures will prove an item as authentic.

I have no idea if this is real or not and as Im not authenticated on the site yet I cant ask for more pictures...but if not real, what bag is it trying to be?
Item- Coach Handbag

Comments...Sorry...I know its not enough pictures.

The seller admitted that it's probably not a Coach. So all it is right now is a nameless counterfeit.

Comments: Shopgoodwill sent the Entrupy certificate but I was reading somewhere on this thread that they can be wrong sometimes. I posted about this bag in the rehab thread about dunking it, and while it was drying I was looking at it closer, it had some things that made me question whether it was authentic. But I know very well I could be wrong (or right :hrmm:). Thank you in advance for your help!

Thank you. Goodwill and Entrupy really need to be made aware of the mistakes that are being made. Both Goodwill and Entrupy are losing any (what little) credibility they may have had and are only convincing those of us who authenticate that AI cannot do a good job!

The mistake wasn't on your part. Many buyers and sellers don't know the names of styles they buy or sell. They like a size, style, color and fit of a bag and buy for those reasons!

But the problems with the bag that ENTRUPY wrongly authenticated has several issues and also further shows that just because a bag looks like the style it's supposed to be doesn't mean that it's authentic.
  • The serial prefix, L5S means that the bag claims to have been made in 1995. The text of the creed states that it was made in the US but "S" is a plant code for a factory in China and S wasn't operating in 1995.
  • The back of the female part of the turnlock has indentations, common on fakes but rarely seen on genuine Coach and on very few styles. And those styles don't have the type of turnlock as seen on this bag.
  • "Solid brass" on the buckles is another red flag.

Hi! So an update on this fake bag I got from shopgoodwill site (please feel free to direct me to another thread or delete if not appropriate):

I emailed customer service and asked whether I could get a refund because it was fake, even though it is past the 7 day return window. They said they are willing to let me send the bag back and they are going to get another service called ****************** to authenticate the bag. If they find it’s real, they send the bag back to me, otherwise I get a refund.

In addition, I told them I would be sending in a list of notes that point out the bag is fake (what was listed here). Is there anything else to include? I will also tell them to take the bag out of circulation if they do find it’s fake.

Thanks again for all of your help here and appreciate all the time you put in!

Because the name of "another service" is starred out, we don't know the company but there is a company whose name TPF software redacts.

There are some companies that have been found to be in error multiple times so hopefully, Goodwill will use a company whose authenticators know the brand.

How did you pay for the bag? If you used a credit card to fund the payment, you can always file a dispute through them. But that should be a last resort.

Wait to see what they come back with.

Thanks! I will see what happens. I did pay with a credit card. I also tried editing it at first a bunch of times to try to get it unstarred but didn’t understand why it kept doing that...

If that’s the leftovers, I can’t imagine what the estate sale must have been!
I've been thinking about this comment after watching the fascinating parade of vintage finds that Morgan posted over the last week, and my guess is that whoever was running the estate sale most likely wasn't a Coach aficionado, and likely put out the best-looking, best-condition bags for the main estate sale, which were also probably more contemporary -- and possibly less valuable in the end, though they were likely priced higher at the sale than the ones Morgan got. Pure speculation on my part as I've never actually been to an estate sale. If the nephew had seen what some vintage lots go for on shopgoodwill.com he might have re-thought his strategy here. What a scoop for Morgan though!

I'm going to post a few photos now to verify what BeenBurned already said - that the L5S- serial prefix under a creed stamp that says the bag was made in the United States is invalid and proves the bag is fake, along with the long-retired "solid brass" buckles and the indented turnlock back. (L in that position is the factory code for the month of November. J is for September, K for October, and M for December. The number 5 after it is the code for 1995, and the S code in GENUINE Coaches signifies a plant in China)

Here are several bags, in this case briefcases, which is what the S plant was making in late 1995 (NOT handbags!), with month codes right BEFORE the fake month "L" code in the fake bag the poster here bought. One of the creed patches even includes the "bullseye" outlet stamp meaning the item had been deleted from the full-price store inventory and transferred to Coach's Factory outlet stores. ALL OF THESE GENUINE BRIEFCASES WERE MADE IN CHINA. That early China plant continued to use the "S" plant code from mid-1995 to at least 2006.

Please feel free to send the link to this post to Shopgoodwill to demonstrate why NO computer program can EVER be used to prove a Coach, especially a vintage coast, is genuine. To do that requires an encyclopedic knowledge of Coach's production codes and a full library of photos showing examples of as many valid serial numbers as it's possible to collect and verified by a QUALIFIED authenticator.

The white bag bought by our member is absolutely 100 percent COUNTERFEIT.

Thank you Hyacinth! I will send the link to them.

Hello!
Morgan's bag saga was epic!!! BeenBurned authenticated a station bag for her yesterday. It has a bean bag creed. Can anyone explain or point me in the direction of bean bag creed info? I'm curious to find out what that means and why Coach named it that. Thank you!!!
