Could one of you Lovely Authenticators take a look at this bag, please:

Item: vintage black leather coach handbag ipad

Listing: 681808062

Seller: keepthechangekevin

Link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/681808062/vintage-black-leather-coach-handbagi-pad

These two links are to pictures he sent me back via Etsy conversations. The creed picture in the listing looks like he's trying to be deceptive to me. Then these two pictures he sent, the Coach in the cartouche looks small to me and the middle digit doesn't look like a digit, it looks like a "Q" to me, not a number. But, I'm a rookie around here, so what do I know?

It's authentic. The year code is 0 (zero) for 2000. So technically, it's not Etsy-legit as it's not (according to Etsy) "Vintage from before 2000"

Thank you for such a timely and complete response. I have opted for a refund. I also sent them a link to your response as was suggested by another poster. As I am writing this, I realize I should have asked your permission first. I apologize for not doing so.

No problem, I have no objection to anyone sending a link to my post since everything I said is 100 percent factual including my comment about any authenticator they might be using. Their fake doesn't even have the right color lining and I'm not even sure if it has the right fabric, it should have the khaki and brown Signature C jacquard lining that was used in the early to mid-2000 decade in most of their all-leather bags, like in this one and every other genuine black style 9186 listed on Ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Co...933543?hash=item46996043a7:g:d28AAOSwFW9dJ1Cu

What kind of "authenticator" doesn't even bother to check for comparable items?

@whateve I looked back at this bag, and was curious, was this only available to certain federal employees or made for an event? Do you know? I think it's really cool, just like some of the items made for the 1996 Olympics here in Atlanta.

Thanks!
Randi
This is the information I have:

The Great Seal bags were from the early 70s and may have been a smaller and earlier version of the Classic Shoulder Bag/Classic Pouch, style 9170. The embossed bags were supposed to have been made for the senators' wives who traveled to China with Nixon in 1972 according to one seller. They were stamped by the government, not by Coach. It's barely possible that Coach or the Feds made a few available for retail sale but that's JUST a guess and has never been confirmed.

There was a later version made during the Reagan years (1981-89) along with a wallet and checkbook holder, and which MIGHT have been tied in to Nancy Reagan's Say No To Drugs program. My guess is that the Nixon-era bags are the ones with the small black Coach plate, and the Reagan versions often have NYC creeds but no serial numbers.

According to Coach archive, they would have been sold blank and embossed by the government.

Thanks, Whateve, that makes sense. I can't really imagine the Feds just handing Coach a stamping mechanism of the Great Seal Of The U.S. and saying, "Stamp it on whatever you like, folks, no problem. Just tidy it up and bring it back when you're finished."

It's authentic.

ETA: did you read the comments? Someone said she was selling too cheap. Maybe the seller raised the price after that comment.

Thanks so much! Don't worry, it was just me being curious and all of that makes sense about the government doing the stamping. They probably wouldn't turn any kind of seal loose like that. I've only seen that one, and some of the 96 Olympics items, and I was just curious!
Thanks again!

AUTHENTICATE This COACH

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread.

Note: The PurseForum requests that only members with an extensive knowledge of the brand and authenticating who have over 500 posts participate as authenticators in this AT thread. The moderators reserve the right to remove authentications that do not meet these requirements.

Please follow the following rules:

  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.

    Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HTF-Vintag...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Comments: I have already purchased this bag and some things are different than the other backpacks I have in this style. The inside is finished different on the bottom inside, the strap where the buckle is is different slightly. The others don't have the rivets. Also beginning with J8 concerns me. It was suggested I ask here. Thanks

  • If the bag in question is not on an auction site, please use the following:

Item Name (if you know it):
    Link (if available):
Then attach any photos (all authentication must include photos.)
    • Please be sure to include a clear readable photo of the creed stamp and serial number from inside the bag or accessory if there is one, and the bag's measurements when the bag is an older or vintage leather Coach.
    • Since mid-2014, Coach stopped putting serial numbers on creeds so in newer bags where the creeds don't have serial numbers, we also need to see pictures of the labels/tags from inside the bag. They are either both in the main open part sewn into the seam of the lining, or one might be buried deep inside the zipper pocket. One shows where made and the other has a serial number.

I did see that comment. Only from standpoint that it is not a NYC bag, I think the bag is priced slightly high. All I can do is shoot my shot. Hopefully, I can put this search to rest and bring it home. Thank you for the authentication!
