IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

It's authentic. Of course the kisslocks aren't solid brass. Bags made during Bonnie Cashin's tenure didn't have solid brass hardware. The quality wasn't as good as in later Coach products.

It's best you accepted the return. They have at least 6 weeks on ebay and much longer on paypal to force a return. Ebay doesn't care if you can prove it is authentic. They just take the buyer's word.
Thank you @whateve ! I appreciate it.

It's genuine and a Bonnie Cashin design but wasn't made while she was designing for Coach. It was probably made in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Bags made during Cashin's time with Coach shouldn't have serial numbers.

I think the style might be a number 9546 Skinny Tote. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge it.

Thank very for authenticating it...and for the very quick reply. Just in time that I bought right away before somebody will. ☺

Hi! I bought this coach purse at a garage sale. Is it authentic? The number inside is hard to read but it is J8H-9929. The measurements are 9x6 in and the strap is 25 in

Sorry, J8H- prefix serial numbers are always fake. The stamped style number 9929 in the serial number also doesn't match the bag in the photos. If you can get your money back, do it.

  • I just received these today. I was unable to get any additional pictures before purchasing, but I took the chance anyway. I only put up 3 of the 5 items for now, because I thought I saw a limit on requests per day somewhere. Im spazzing a bit with nervous excitement, and can't really concentrate long enough to find that info right now.
Item: Station bag
Listing number:67918527
Seller: shopgoodwill.com central and southern Indiana
Link: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/67918527
Comments: Fake? Stitching, handle, all the serial number overstamp lines, etc.

I can't add enough pics for 3 bags so only did 2 for now, hopefully the best one and maybe the worst one?
Thank you!!

I wanted to post a bit of an update about the fake station bag.
I contacted them to let them know 1 of the 5 bags in the lot wasn't authentic. I sent a short message with a couple of comparison pics of a red station bag that was kindly authenticated here already. This was the response, after 5 days...

I was thrilled to point out that if quality control had, in fact, looked up the number on this bag they would have seen the first several results are links to lists of known fake serial numbers. I also included (among MANY other things) that two other bags in this lot, the pony express, has no numbers to google, and the side pack h7m-9978, shows no results when googled. They are giving me 20% refund when the "bag in question" is returned.

I'm glad the seller is doing the right thing, but a word of warning -

Remember one very important thing when googling or even searching tPF for serial numbers. Known PUBLISHED fake serial numbers where the entire string of numbers has been posted about anywhere online like that 0444-315 in the fake Station Bag are much more likely to be found than newer serial numbers made after 1994 that include a prefix made up of the item's production codes. You can never depend on fake serial numbers to show up on Google, or even here on tPF which is a much more likely place for them to be noted.

For instance, BeenBurned recently posted a fake -9978 with an E5J- prefix at the Coach Hall Of Shame that doesn't appear on any search engine because there's no written serial number in that post. The only way to spot it is by looking at and enlarging the photos. The tPF forum search engine was able to find the "9978" but searching for "coach e5j 9978" at Google doesn't bring up anything at all. Please don't ever depend on Google to spot fakes for you.

ETA - And here's the photo - try to find that number on Google:

Thank you, that's Very good to know! Sometimes I feel like I've learned a lot, but I see its only the tip of the iceberg, and the iceberg keeps getting bigger! I originally hadn't thought to search the number on google, I think I'm too used to coming straight here. I even forgot to check the Salearea guides AND I missed the spelling error in the creed:facepalm:. I think I was too distracted by the weird handle and white stitching (or maybe it was the pony express).

After I got their message implying "the bag in question" was authentic because google said so, and my red bag was "newer" so it was different, I was pretty hot. I went about gathering all the ways they were wrong. I was a little too excited to point out they were lying about "authenticating" it through google.

You all are amazing, a million thanks for continually sharing all this wonderful information!!
edit- now, if I could only remember to use the "quote" instead of the "reply". dear lord.

If they're REALLY depending on Google for authentications, then they're idiots, and I've explained why in one of the Salearea Guides. If they're lying about it, they're STILL idiots and I wouldn't trust them to sell me a genuine copy of yesterday's newspaper. If they refuse to use an actual qualified authenticator (and there are very few that are qualified to authenticate Coach products!) they should at least add the word "purseforum" to their Google search, assuming they're actually looking for posts and not just photos. At least that way they have a better chance of getting accurate information.

In addition to the problematic 5 digit reg #, was the belt bag ever offered in the Sheridan line??
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-...:rikAAOSwQWlc9-sz:sc:USPSPriority!08002!US!-1
Seller: collectibleonceloved

ANY time you see a 5-number serial like that without the "No" in front, it's a Korean fake. Coach didn't make Sheridan belt bags and they didn't make Sheridans with springlocks. The color of the trim isn't right, "COACHBAG" should never be one word, and it says Made in Korea right in the first creed photo.

ETA - It already disappeared before I could save a photo but it also looked like the Coach logo may have said "LEATHERWARS"

OOOOOOOO, so she's still up to her old tricks! I wonder how many different IDs that makes just at Ebay, not counting Etsy and wherever else she's dumping her fakes?

ATTENTION, BOARDIES - SELLER " collectibleonceloved " AT EBAY IS STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED, she has a history of selling fakes that goes back YEARS.

ETA - Back to 2013, in fact, here are a series of posts here at tPF:
https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/authenticate-this-coach.818914/page-60#post-24780438

She's also had accounts at Etsy and Tradesy but those were apparently closed by the sites.
Previous IDs and selling links:
current Ebay ID - collectibleonceloved

Now NARU botticelli4grace
Opened another ID on eBay but was NARU'ed after listing a fake and having the account linked: absolutelybetterpursedeals

Tradesy ID was Botticelli4grace but after TPF posts and NARU, it was changed to https://www.tradesy.com/closet/betterluster/sold/
Absolutely Better Purse Deals
@Betterluster

Now on Tradesy as Handbags2ndTimeAround
@Betterluster

Etsy: (It looks like she closed her account): PursesTimeAfterTime (name changed?)
https://www.etsy.com/shop/TreasureChestBooty
Threadflip (now defunct) but she was on there too: http://www.threadflip.com/botticelli4grace

She's probably still selling real estate in the Cincinnatti area.
