It might be okay but the creed is bent and at a funny angle so it looks weird. If you're interested in the bag, I'd request a straight on picture of the creed with the lining pulled out so the creed lies flat.

Here's a flat picture of the creed.

Thanks for your patience.

It;s genuine, the style number is actually 9948.

Coach may still have been calling it a Canterbury, which was the name it was introduced with in Spring 1994. The name was changed to Nottingham some time after Autumn of 1994. Here are thumbnails of the catalog page from Fall 1994 and Spring 1995:

Thank you, Hyacinth! I was wondering why I was seeing 'Canterbury' and 'Nottingham', or sometimes 'Binocular Bag'.

I have an authentication question. I look through Goodwill Online and have bought several things from them. I've gotten where I try to authenticate as much as I can through TPF before purchasing but before I did this I bought two Coach lots and over half of the items were counterfeit when authenticated through TPF. I am pretty sure that they have reposted some of the items and say they have been authenticated through Entrupy. The reason I think this is because they had the same serial number which is the common fake one that starts with a J. I should have saved the links because the auctions have now closed. I know Entrupy is computer based. Are they respected and trusted in the authentication community?

I can't comment on the specific listings without seeing them but will make a couple of comments.

While "J" is certainly a month code seen on lots of fakes, it IS a valid month code and would legitimately be seen on 1/12 of genuine items too.

I'm confused by this: "I bought two Coach lots and over half of the items were counterfeit when authenticated through TPF. I am pretty sure that they have reposted some of the items and say they have been authenticated through Entrupy." Did you return those that were found to be fake? It sounds like you did return and you're implying that the actual bags are relisted. Or is it bags with the same serial number but not necessarily the same bag?

Entrupy is supposedly some type of computer program that uses an algorithm that compares details of authentic items to determine whether another bag is fake. Personally, I'm skeptical and so far, wouldn't trust a computer over a human expert. I can't understand how or believe that a computer can know the variations that can legitimately occur among various factories and from year to year.

I'd love to look at some listings of Coach bags for which Entrupy determined authenticity.

I bought two lots on GoodwillOnline and I think they're probably not authentic. The online photos weren't helpful and their customer service is not very responsive. Anyway, I took a chance. If you need more photos let me know.

Thank you for your help.

BeenBurned, this was where I had started the posts about the fake bags.

It was the J8P-9988 I remembered as being frequently used in fakes. I did return them to GoodWill and they credited me back soon after receiving them. I don't know for sure that they reposted them. I should have bookmarked the link. I remember looking at the photos of the "authenticated" bags and going, hey, that's that fake serial number. And it made me wonder how accurate their software was.

Yes, the bag you posted is definitely fake but what I'd like to see is if and where Entrupy deemed them genuine.

Although I've heard through the grapevine that there have been mistakes made by Entrupy in other brands, I'd like first hand proof that they deemed a fake as authentic.

I'll keep an eye out and if I find a good example, I'll post it. I've been googling and Entrupy says they have a 98. something accuracy rating. I read that to mean 1 to 2 out of every 100 they authenticate is wrong.

I want to make an offer on this bag but am unsure of its authenticity. The style number in the listing,12520, is one I've only seen in Ergos. Does Coach ever reuse style numbers.

There's a reason why we need to see clear and legible pictures of all parts of the items, not simply assuming that the seller has correctly described the bag, style and serial/style number.

A seller with as many Coach listings as this seller sells should have learned what needs to be shown. None of the listings I looked at show creeds although a few show blurry portions of creeds.

I'm guessing that the seller copied the style number incorrectly but unless she sends you a clear picture, it can't be authenticated accurately.

Hi authenticators,
Please authenticate this bag.
It has no creed patch and style number. It says made in the Philippines.
It has satin lining.
Thank you.

I contacted the seller and was told
Hi, This is the right serial # and this bag is 100% authentic. I have been selling Coach for over 15 years and know their product inside and out. This was from a very limited edition with the beautiful legacy rainbow lining. It was from the spectator edition. Mine is the only one listed and Coach re-used this number which they have done.
