Item: Coach Rare Vintage Bonnie Cashin Sling Tote Body Bag 1960's remake
Seller: Chayli_0
Listing : 192520515707
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coach-Rare...ing-Tote-Body-Bag-1960-s-Remake-/192520515707

Do NOT buy that bag from " Chayli_0 "

I'm concerned that the creed and serial number aren't readable and the bag can't be completely authenticated. If the seller can supply a readable photo of the stamping we can take another look.

The seller claims it's the year 2000 remake, but what little I can read of the serial number looks more like it has 5 digits in the first half (might be C12 73?) including a 2-digit plant code and 2-digit year code which would put it at around 2006 or later. The style number also looks like 5 digits that could be 99999, which in genuine Coaches would indicate a sample bag, but which has also often been found in fakes and which some fakes makers (and sellers) used precisely because it could never be verified or authenticated since there is no effective way to authenticate sample bags with generic style numbers. The 5 digit style number rather than 4-digit also tells me the bag was NOT made in 2000 (and the year 2000 remake wasn't called a Body Bag either!). The poor quality of the creed stamping is another potential problem.

Since it can't be authenticated I do NOT recommend buying it since it's not what the seller claims it is either.

More opinions are welcome.

I don't know the bag in question but after looking at some of chayli_0 's other listings, particularly her Mickey Mouse Disney bag and seeing problems with it, I'm with @Hyacinth and recommending against buying that bag and against buying from that seller.

None of her listings have pictures that are detailed enough, well focused enough nor have enough of the pictures necessary to prove authenticity, I'm suspicious that creeds are blurry for a reason and that she may be hiding something.

If this seller wanted to take good pictures, she can do it because some pictures are good enough quality to see details.

And this listing from the same seller from 2 months ago raises MORE red flags for me:

And the creed from that bag:

EXCELLENT detective work, BB !!! EXACTLY the same fake creed and serial number too.

That's more than just a red flag, that's a whole field full of tornado warning sirens all going off at the same time. DAMN, that is one butt-ugly fake! You could almost believe the first one, but this one has to be one of the tackiest recent fakes I've seen. I think it's safe to report both of them together.

I'll add a pic of the outside in case the listing disappears:

Do NOT buy ANYTHING from seller " Chayli_0 "

And 2 more pics, a comp of the fake -99999 "sample" and a genuine bag style 19999 from the same plant, month and year. The creed formatting isn't even the same.

No. No single detail INCLUDING tags and creed patches can ever prove a Coach item is authentic. The only proof is that every detail of the item is exactly correct for the style, plant location, and month and year of manufacture as indicated by the serial number. Any "guide" that says otherwise is wrong.
Yes, thank you! I should have clarified that I have learned through this forum that simply having a creed patch and/or a tag is no guarantee the purse is authentic, which is why this forum is such a great resource and very much appreciated!

Did you happen to refer the seller, SmokeyPearlVintage here? If she's aware that the bag is considered to be an obvious fake and has refused to issue a refund without a fight, she's not a very good seller!

I've used Authenticate4U for other brands (not Coach) and for $7.50, I've received a PDF copy of a simple authentication. I think that would be enough proof for you to prove your case to Etsy. (Other companies often charge more for PDFs and their basic authentications are emails, not usually accepted in disputes.)

Personally, I like A4U because they use brand specialists. Unlike Carol Diva who claims to do all brands but does them herself and often errs, I like a company whose authenticators know the brand they do rather than a "jack of all trades, master of none" one.

If etsy seller SmokeyPearlVintage isn't willing to pay for the authentication for the FAKE BAG she sold, I don't recommend that seller!

I don't blame you for being upset! Had the seller done the right thing (as required by law) and verified authenticity before listing that bag, you wouldn't be in the position you are now finding yourself.

I just wanted to offer a belated but sincere thanks for all your help on the fake Coach Ergo purple bag I posted here. I was finally able to get Etsy to require a full refund from the seller.

I learned so much by reading the posts here. I'll know to run any bag I'm thinking of purchasing online through the authentication thread first. And, using what I have learned from the collective wisdom on this thread, I was able to make a decision NOT to buy a supposed Coach bag I recently saw in a thrift store (they had it in the case, but I was able to get it out and examine it and- too many concerns/red flags to risk it at the price). I'm far, far from ever being an expert, but I'm better informed than before and I really appreciate that. Thanks once more for your time and dedication to the subject!
