Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.

Hello, I’m a newbie and recently developed a love for vintage coach. I have been slowly adding to my collection. I just got the Prairie bag 9954 and it did not come with a tag ( the one pictured is from another purse), so I called Coach customer service to get one. The CS I spoke to claimed that Coach never manufactured that style number hence I am here to verify that info. She was still helpful and went ahead and sent me a hangtag. Thanks for any help.

The bag is authentic from 1995.

And the part in red is why we advise that one should NEVER depend on Coach to give accurate information. I have no idea what their computer system shows though I know it's not all-inclusive but for them to tell you that Coach never made style 9954 is nonsense.

When I called about a vintage bag, I usually used a style number from a more recent style just so they wouldn't say the style didn't exist. They really can't handle it when you have a bag made before 1994, with a unique serial number.

i have just bought this bag from a vintage store and am unsure whether it is real. i have looked at a lot of online sites about authentication but they have recommended this forum

You really need to post a larger photo of the creed patch and serial number. We need to be able to see and read the codes and other details. The small photo you posted can't be enlarged enough.

In this case though, the style number WAS on the 1995 bag and they still got it wrong!

Yep! But remember, they didn't even have a functioning website until around the middle of 1998. Fall 1998 is the first mention of Coach.com I can find in their catalog order pages. So a lot of style numbers never even made it onto the site if they were already discontinued or close to it. And others were purged in the early 2000s.

That's another reason why calling Coach to ask if a vintage style is genuine is such a total waste of time and causes nothing but trouble.

Yes, that is why if I call I'll use 9927 or 9085 or another style number that was made fairly recently.
