Hello! Could you please help with this Vintage City bag I purchased off eBay? The leather and hardware seems to be great but the creed tag is quite off-centered/crooked? and along the seams inside all around shows a lighter color leather..I've owned a city bag before and I do not remember the inside seams being like this. Also the dimensions of the bag are also different from other coach city bag listings (eg: length of this bag is 11.75", while other city bags are 10.5" in length?

The serial number is the most important detail and proves absolutely that the bag is fake.

Dimensions depend on how and where the measurements are taken, some older bags had light-colored leather next to the seams, and the leather or hardware "looking right" doesn't prove anything. But the serial number production codes are wrong for that plant and year.Your other pictures don't show the details we really need to see (FULL width of the inside pocket, FULL front and back of the bag along with a side view, back of the turnlock, etc) but the serial number does. Please post the URL of the Ebay listing, which we ask for in the first post of this thread, please read it and provide the information requested for future authentications.

It's authentic and from 2001. It's not yet vintage (until 2021).

ETA: Note that the seller biraweeya87 doesn't authenticate prior to listing. She has this current fake with an invalid serial prefix.

That one is authentic too.

Yes, elady01 doesn't knowingly list fakes but she certainly doesn't verify before listing.

I don't think I've ever heard of a berkeley Ergo Hobo.

It's a style 6101 which MIGHT have been called an Ergo Satin Satchel. The fabric is a kind of satin velvet, not suede.

A similar one was kind of ID'd here a while back:

The one in the PM listing even has the same creed mistake as the one we discussed back in 2010, "glove tanned cowhide". Here's the Care Card from its sister style 6100 Maggie Satin Duffle:

Bummer. I thought it was suede. Though the seller described it as velvet. I thought velvet had more "nap" to it. Oh well. Thank you so much!

Thank you for that authenication, BeenBurned. I saw what you meant about that other ultra-fake-looking listing and decided to avoid this auction.

As BeenBurned pointed out, the seller also has a fake listed. And it's such an OBVIOUS fake that there's no excuse for any seller to not recognise the simple and easily searchable fact that not only is the serial number prefix invalid, but the style number 9525 belongs to a Stewardess Bag, which looks nothing at all like the duffle-type fake and is one of the most recognizable styles Coach has ever made.

The Glazed Roll Bag in the listing you asked about is genuine but the seller also neglected to mention that the long shoulder strap is apparently missing. I own 2 examples of this style, and just want to warn anyone interested in it that chances of finding a strap to match are Slim to None.

Thank you for your advice, Hyacinth. I noticed it was missing a strap and wondered how difficult it might be to find a replacement.

You're right about that link to the eBay auction. I must've been having a digitally-impaired moment when I posted that.
