It's a genuine Briefbag, style 5080 from the mid-80s. Please note, that style was for hand-carrying only and did not come with a shoulder strap.
Is it? At first glance, I too though the this listing was for a late 1970s 5080 Brief Bag. But then I noticed that when looking from the side it had two distinct compartments, whereas I thought that the Brief Bag (at least the ones I have) had only one. Did this style undergo a design change somewhere along the way where it was enlarged?

Hello Ladies! Thank you in advance, you rock!

Possible next rehab project:

Item: CÒACH GRay Leather VINTAGE Crossbody Shoulder Handbag Brass Hardware
Listing number: 272600863272
Seller: jcklawn
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-ACH-GRay-...863272?hash=item3f78471228:g:6tYAAOSwAuZX3Dry

Comments: Do you know if the strap on this would be long enough for cross body?
Authentic companion bag #9300. I don't think it is really gray, judging by the color of the pocket. It might just be faded. I think 16 inches is too short for crossbody. Coach offered this style with two straps, 44 and 36 inches, and it sounds like this has the shorter strap. I think you need a minimum of a 20 inch drop for crossbody.

Genuine Companion Bag, but the seller says the strap drop is 16 inches. Add maybe another inch or two to that if you undo the knot in the strap used to shorten it and that still leaves only about a 17-inch drop. Assuming it's the original strap, the only available lengths in the late 1980s were 36 and 45 inches, and this looks like the 36-inch one.

ETA - and I agree with Whateve about it being faded black, not gray. The inside pocket usually shows the actual color and that pocket looks like black to me too.

I think it is a 5170 Diplomat Brief from 1988, judging from the paperwork. The cleaning instructions are dated 1986 but the registration card is dated 1988.

Good point - the only catalog pic I have doesn't show any details of the side. So it's probably a Diplomat Briefcase, style 5170.

ETA - Doggone it, Whateve, ya got me again!

I give up. :whut:

If anyone needs me, I'll be heading for the bottom of a pint of Haagen Dasz.

Thank you both! I figured grey is not the color judging by the inside leather.

Thank you, Hyacinth! One more, also on eBay:

OK, I reloaded the bloody page twice (checks for signs of Whateve...)

Genuine, but NOT from the 70s or 80s like the seller claims. It was made in 1996.

I saved that one for you! I was going to comment on the "world famous" claim.
Not only does empowercombed not know how to read and decode serial numbers but she doesn't verify authenticity of her listings before selling them either.

Here's a pig -- I mean H0G that she sold!

Just a heads up that I asked Mypoupette to confirm they authenticated a bag listed by linda*s***stuff and they couldn't say for sure. Apparently they do so many authentications for her that they can't track which ones get listed and can only say they 'most likely did' if she says they did. I was very surprised! Definitely not a new subject, but this was a new-to-me layer.
ETA: is there a better place for this - I couldn't decide!

Some statements are just too silly to even comment on.

Nathan's Hot Dogs may be "World Famous". Chicago-style deep dish pizza may be "World Famous". Certain politicians may be "World Famous" (or INfamous, depending on your point of view). But Coach Prairie Bags????

It must be the heat. ("Or some rare disease, La La La. Or too much to eat. Or maybe it's fleas...")
