I could've sworn I left a comment saying this bag wasn't authentic. But it's not there anymore. Hmm.

DO NOT BUY FROM MARYAB90!

Hello,
Can you authenticate this bag please? I'm a rookie at this, and already burned by a fake bag. You would think I would have learned my lesson. Apparently not, because I'm now told this bag is fake.
I called Coach and they verified that the Serial No was a "correct Serial No for Patricia Legacy", but that's all they can do. I'm hoping you guys/gals can help me out. I bought this bag on Ebay, so I have no proof that it is real or not.
  • Item Name (if you know it): Patricia Legacy (Name identified by Coach Support, from Serial No.)
    Link (if available): Not Available
  • Measurements: 9"Height x 4"Depth x 11.5"Length
Thank you!
Joanne

Welcome to TPF. I'm sorry your first TPF experience isn't what you want to hear.

Unfortunately, the bag is fake.

Your experience in calling Coach is exactly the reason why we recommend against calling Coach. Although your bag is the "correct" style number for the style it's copying, that doesn't mean the bag is authentic. P1L and PIL are common known invalid prefixes and that prefix followed by 9951 is a common number seen on fakes, both Patricia and non-Patricia styles.

Please post a link to the ebay listing from which you purchased. (See post #1 for the information and posting format.)

Is this a Coach product? There's no stamping or tags but it looks like the real deal. This is in my possession-found thrifting today.

Thanks for the Information. Here's the original listing that I purchased the from on Ebay.

Item: Vintage Coach Leather Messenger Crossbody Bag
Listing number: 182231284756
Seller: sweetgoldenfaith1228

Comments:
Yup, sweetgoldenfaith1228 sold you a fake. Refer her here and if she doesn't agree to a refund, you can open a dispute through Paypal. (It's too late for an ebay SNAD dispute.)

There's nothing wrong with finding cheap deals to flip for a profit but my suggestion has always been that unless you're expert, it's always a good idea to have items that you didn't personally purchase from an authorized retailer authenticated. It's better for your reputation as well as for the 'health' of your account!

Is there anything that indicates that it's Coach? There are several things that I question.
  • I've never seen a wristlet that was permanently attached at both ends. I've only ever seen a clip at at least one end.
  • The "made in" tag is a silky material that I've never seen on any Coach item. I've never known them to use that type of label.
It appears to be fairly nicely made, probably trying to copy Coach's style and construction but I believe it to be a generic brand product.

Other opinions are welcome.

excellent advice. Thanks again. The last thing I would want to do is pass on a fake bag to someone else. I have 3 Coach bags that I'm going to pull off of Ebay until I can get an opinion on them.

Thanks, BeenBurned! I was curious because the color, material, and stitching look similar to a Hamptons bag I have. But, no identifying marks and the zipper were questionable. I appreciate your expertise!

I don't believe it was made by Coach either Along with what BeenBurned already mentioned, their genuine items should have a stamp or other identifying mark. This one just looks like a generic pebbled leather bag.

I'd be interested in sweetgoldenfaith1228's response to your request for a refund. (If she's smart, she will allow you just to destroy and dispose of the fake. Since she can't resell it, IMO it's a waste of money for her to pay for return shipping.)

By the way, when an item is SNAD, the seller pays return shipping should she want it back. You should be made whole.
