Comments: I know the photos aren't good, but hey, if by some chance you ladies can tell if this is authentic and someone is comfortable possibly rejuvenating patent leather... this is a great steal! I just have a funny feeling looking at it. At first I thought there's no way that's real, then I kept looking back at it thinking maybe it is.

The pictures aren't adequate for authentication purposes. (Some of the fakes are close and better pictures are needed.)

Please request clear closeups of:
1. Creed
2. Horse and carriage plaque
3. Trigger clip on the long strap
4. Front of bag showing handle standing up and area where handles attach to the body of the bag.

Coach red leather vertical long wallet credit card check book bill fold vintage
I think it is okay. Most checkbooks were never sold separately. They were included with a wallet, but those usually didn't have added pockets. I think this might be #4645 checkbook case from 1992, but I can't tell for sure since the only photo I have doesn't show a clear picture of the inside.

It's really hard to authenticate or even identify something like that. It looks to me like just the removable checkbook cover from a full-size wallet. The edging seems too basic for the main part of a wallet and there isn't any coin pocket. Even if it's old enough to be vintage, there aren't enough slots for all the credit cards plus IDs like a drivers licence that most people, even men, would usually carry. Also if it was the main part of a wallet, the Coach stamp would probably have been on the outside. Coach could have made checkbook covers like that for a number of different checkbook wallets, and I'm not sure what you'd use it for without the main part of the wallet. It sounds from the "SUPER SOFT & THIN LEATHER" description that it wouldn't hold up well on its own in a purse or pocket.

If someone has an older red wallet that's missing a checkbook cover, it might be worth trying,.

ETA - I DID find a photo of the 4645 Checkbook Case that Whateve mentioned, and don't think this is it. The individual Case came in 2 different versions, with and without a snap closure, but in Coach's photo the style 4645 version without the snap tab closure has the Coach stamp in a different position on the inside. Here's what 4645 and the tabbed 4620 looked like, from the 1989 Spring catalog, it's close but not exactly the same: I've looked in a few other catalogs but none of the pictures are clear enough to show if they might have changed the placing of the Coach stamp somewhere along the line.
