It's authentic. It's an Ali leather top handle pouch from 2009.

New to the forum and to Coach, hoping you ladies can help. My boss gave me an old coach bag of hers. It's pretty beat up but I love the look of it. The ID on the creed is #495-6701. I called Coach CS and they said 6701 is "not in their system," but I've seen it on these forums. Does this mean it's a fake?

Item Name: not sure, maybe from the "bridle collection"

The bag is 12" tall and 14" wide and is sort of simple "tote" style.

Thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to TPF.

Your discussion with Coach reinforces why we recommend against calling any company for identification and/or authentication advice.

The serial number on your bag is a random number indicating that the bag was made prior to 1994. The serial number doesn't identify the style of bag.

(And on a side note, even if the serial number was a 1994 or later bag, that doesn't prove authenticity. Additionally, not all style numbers are in their system, again making them unable to identify an item. And too often, if they can't find it in the system, they (Coach) assume and tell callers items are fake when they may be 100% authentic.)

Your bag looks fine but I can't give you the name of the style.

ETA: As further confirmation of the misleading information received from Coach, I point to the following.

Although in your case, the serial number doesn't indicate the style number but based on what you were told, the implication is that style 6701 doesn't exist because it's not in their computer system.

But in fact, the following post from Hyacinth identifies style 6701 as a legitimate and lovely bridle top handle bag which were Coach's top of the line:

I agree with everything BB said. Your bag appears to be Light Tote #4065 from the Lightweights collection, made between 1989 and 1993.

I'll back up everything BeenBurned has already said, and I strongly suggest that you take the time to read the six Salearea Coach Guides posted at Ebay, ESPECIALLY the one that goes into detail about the problems with "authenticity guides" and also with asking anyone at Coach to authenticate ANYTHING.

SALEAREA GUIDES
http://search.reviews.ebay.com/members/salearea_W0QQcpnameZmembersQQprZsaleareaQQuqtZg

The two Salearea Coach Guides on Creeds and on Serial numbers explain why a serial number in that 3+4 all-number format can never be used to identify any Coach bag. (Except maybe for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics items, but that's another story!)

Yours looks like a Light Tote from the Lightweight line. It's style number 4065 and was made between 1988 and 1990. Here's Coach's catalog description from 1989:

ETA - BLAST !!!! Whateve got me again! :D

Both wallets look fine.

The soho checkbook wallet might be 40300 though they came out with similar versions over the years and yours might be newer or older.

The perforated leather wallet is 6519 but I don't know the official style name.
