You make an interesting point about the wear on the authenticity tag...I can't explain it. Maybe the person who had it before used the compartment a lot and the tag, being fabric, took more of a beating than the leather or metal parts. Do you know what the numbers on the authenticity tag mean? The girl at the shop where I bought it thought it might be very vintage (70's) but I don't think it would have had cell phone pockets back then. Thanks for your input.

It's not that old, I'm almost certain--the cellphone pocket is one reason. In that era, they had metal nameplates and no authenticity tags. Sorry, I don't know what the numbers on the older tags represent. BV is a hard brand to authenticate, because they have changed tags, fonts, etc. many times in the 40+ years the company has been around.

I just received this older BV I won last week. What do you guys think about its authenticity? I'm totally new to BV and clueless. When I posted the auction link here Baggiana thought it looked good, but I never got closer pics of the zippers, etc. I uploaded a ton of pics for you to judge. I'm not worried about any wear on the bag (which is hardly any at all, just authenticity. If it helps, the interior is leather and the interior pocket lining is satin. Thanks for you input.

Mid-, I have a cosmetic case in this color/design-the color is truer to the first pic. I have this bag too in ebano and love it!!!! I just bought it from an outlet.

Lawbabe, I just bought this bag yesterday not knowing about Mid's interest in it. Glad to hear you love it cos I hope I'll like mine and find it comfortable when it arrives! I'd love to see a pix of your bag in ebano if you can post a picture. TIA

Can anyone weigh in on my bag posted on page 80? Front of authentication tag is the brown tag with the arrow. Do the numbers tell anything about the age of the bag? I thought based on the assumption that the open interior pockets were cell phone pockets, that the bag may be just a few years old. Then I looked at Ebay guide again and they talked about this label being an older one (but they didn't say how old). The handles show no wear and the lining is in perfect condition. It could be an older bag that just wasn't used heavily.

I stand by my original assessment. It is a fairly new vintage - prior to Tomas Maier - and maybe even prior to Giles Deacon, but definitely not the 70's or 80's where the font used was serif. The numbers, themselves, do not tell me anything, but they probably represented the style, size, and color, where I believe that NE stands for nero - or black. A raveled tag on the interior of the zipper pocket does not bother me, considering it is located under the top row of the zipper (the right position for this vintage), and would have been handled often as the owner reached inside of her pocket. You have a nice recent vintage bag, in apparently good condition. Congratulations!

Allora, I know the first 2 rules of the forum, but I'm strangely compelled by this bag. Negs: 1) no one had bid on it 2)my BV SA has never seen this bag or pattern (I sent her a pic only) Pos: 1)visually striking 2)price 3)returns avail. if not auth.

Care to be my voice of reason? Anyone? Beuhler?

Just curious... what did you decide to do? The metal tag is nearly identical to the metal nametag of sdkitty's bag, so the vintage is probably the same if authentic. Too bad that the seller would not post additional pictures of the tag and zipper pulls, but I did not have a bad feeling about this one, just couldn't authenticate without the additional pics.

thank you so much...I am very happy to have accidentally found this great bargain...the most expensive bag I've had to date was a Gryson Olivia...Even though this bag is pre-owned, it's a BV! I'll wear her proudly.:yahoo:

I watched it, and it went from no bids to 10 bids at the last minute, and sold for over $150. I let it go, as I'm working towards something else, and the fact that my BV SA couldn't place it didn't help. As you said, it was a great bag if I didn't care who made it, but I'm afraid I'm going to hold out for an Old Petra or an Hermes.....I know, I'm doomed:wtf:....

The picture of the tag looks vintage and good, but ask the seller to send or post a clear picture of the zipper pull, and a picture of the whole zipper with the tag... maybe the nicks in the leather if you want to accurately assess the wear. Off hand, this looks like a nice vintage bag.

What does the leather feel and smell like? Seeing the metal plate, I felt good about it, but I have never seen plastic zippers with the metal plate and a full leather lining. That does not mean that it is not authentic. It probably is, since no one would go to the trouble to produce an older bag at a time when these handbags did not command such high prices... and command much less now. If you had received the pics that I requested you obtain, I would have been able to tell you that I was unfamiliar with this type of zipper, and pull on a bag of this age. Good news, is that you did not pay much and it most probably is authentic, though I cannot be certain...

boxermom, you are good on vintage, what do you think???

I agree with Baggiana's opinion that the vintage styles were unlikely to be faked. The zipper on this bag has me very puzzled, though. It's almost as if a previous owner replaced the original zipper! That's the only reason I can think of for this plastic-looking thing. The metal nameplate is authentic IMO and your description of leather lining and satin in the pocket fits BV's vintage bags. The zipper is just out of place--maybe a repair was done and the zipper replaced. Only thing I can think of.

The leather smells good (inside and out) and the zippers aren't plastic, they're metal. Well, the pulls are metal. Do you mean the actual zipper teeth? I will say they do look stranger in the pics than IRL. Wow, I wish you guys could see it in person! lol I totally see how you are thinking that the zippers were replaced, but I've thoroughly checked both (the seams, etc.) and I don't think they have been. Either they are the originals, or whoever replaced them did an amazing job.

So, given the look of the label and the braiding you give it a thumbs up? Could you guess at how old it is? Just curious.

Like you said, it didn't cost much. And, honestly, it looks super cool on! I'm petite and it can even be worn cross body!

Sorry! :shame: In the photos I guess the metal looked different than it really is. I'm the only one who came up with the bizarre notion that the zipper wasn't original to the bag LOL. Based on your description of the leather, lining, and the nameplate, I'll say authentic. Maybe they did these zippers for a brief time.

Wouldn't it be great if someone compiled a complete year-by-year catalog of the fonts, tags, styles and colors? I can dream.
