Authenticate This Botkier

Hi, I just purchased this Trigger on eBay. It appears to be a smaller sized one. The color was listed as "Winter White." I believe this is an older version since it has the pull tabs instead of tassels and the Botkier tag is placed in one of the secret compartments instead of the center compartment. I was wondering if this is authentic though. The zippers look cheap. The big metal zippers are YKK zippers and the one on the inside is labeled as "dove." If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I uploaded pictures here:

TIA!
The very old triggers had tag pulls, nameplates in the secret compartments and plain canvas lining but if this bag is so old why does it look brand new?

What's the leather like? Is it soft and squishy or does it feel kind of stiff? Also, does it have a chemically smell?

The seller stated in the description that the bag had only been used 3 times. Perhaps it's one of those bags that got used a few times and sat in the back of the closet for years... Here's a link to the auction if that helps. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=270832633917

I can't really tell if it's leather. I don't have much experience with white leather. It's very thick and doesn't appear to have that pleather smell. If I open up the vertical zippers I can see the underside of the fabric and it does look like the way leather should look on the underside, if you know what I mean. It's fuzzy and suede like

Oh. I had one more thing to check - is the word "botkier" on the base of that big clip at the bottom?

The fake ones are leather just lower quality. In fact, the fakes are generally very good copies. That's why it's so hard to authenticate them. I read the seller's description and it seems like she's saying this is from the current classic line. I don't know enough about that to say if it's true but she's be pretty crazy to give one in such good condition away for $99.

I'd ask her directly how old the bag is and where she got it.

The word "Botkier" isn't on that big clip at the bottom. Is it supposed to be there? Hmmm that would be pretty sick if I was sold a fake Botkier!

The hardware on the bag also looks vintage. It's like a brassy gold with some uneven oxidation.

As for the price, I see a lot of Triggers being listed on eBay nowadays for around $100-$200. I'm sure some of them are authentic.

Fortunately, the auction states that buyer can return item within 7 days, and I think I'll do that. Although the bag is cute, it's smaller than I'd expected (I wanted a regular sized trigger) and the white leather just looks a little fake. Now that there's question about its authenticity I should return it.

I actually don't think the very first triggers had the name at the base of the clip but later ones do and if you had found it that would have been reassuring.

They were made with the aged look hardware so that doesn't really speak to its age.

Sorry I couldn't give you a definitive answer on it. If you feel better returning it I say go ahead. I agree that the small bags are too small. They're very heavy, too, for their size. The mediums are just a bit heavier and give you a lot more room.

It's authentic.

Hi all.

This Sophia Large Satchel in Silver Powder Cowhide I bought on eBay arrived today. It looks fine. It came with tags attached, authenticity card, dustbag and a little roll of something which I think is correction tape with the silver color on it for incidental scratches (someone please let me know if that's what it is). Everything looks correct, the lining is black canvas with "botkier" repeating signature, the pockets are trimmed in silver leather to match the outside and there's a chain key fob in the same color as the hardware.

The only reason I have to question it is that it was SO inexpensive - just over $100 including shipping and the only thing I can find wrong with it is that one of the external zippers is a bit sticky and there are a few very small black spots on one of the handles. That, along with the fact that the Botkier fakes I've seen have been very good copies makes me want to get a second opinion!

There a few more photos here if they help: http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/...r Sophia Large Satchel Silver Powder Cowhide/

Thanks in advance!

Just saw this post. Nice bag and you got a great deal! The roll is an extra tassel for your zipper pulls.
OH! THAT's what it is! Thank you so much! I was seriously mystified for a while. Hehe

I figured it was authentic since everything seemed fine I was just skeptical of the super-low price. I wore the bag over my Christmas vacation and am really happy with it. It has all the stuff I always look for - lots of room, a good length shoulder strap and easy in/out. I was worried that the silver would rub off since I've always had trouble with metallic bags but so far no problems.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

It's authentic but the pics are horrible! I would ask for better pics as these are so dark, one can't tell the condition of the bag.

It is? Are you sure? :D I acctually thought that it would be fake 'cause the seller is also selling the same bag but in a more chestnuty color... She told me it was in great condition, but maybe it's a good idea to ask for better pics anyhow.
