IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please see post #1 for complete Balenciaga authentication rules. All requests must be posted in this thread. Authentications are not done via private message or in any other thread.

See the link below for examples of the photos needed and the format they should be in (clear, close up, forward-facing, no angles, right way up, no bends in tags).

https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/required-pics-for-balenciaga-authentication.741442/

A link to the listing in question is required.

It is an authenticator’s right to ignore a request that is not in the proper format. If the listing you are interested in is missing photos it is your responsibility to request them from the seller prior to posting in this thread.

Thanks and be well!

You guys act like people cant be unaware their item is a rep. The bags you guys are claiming fake are listed on trusted sites such as verstaire, grailed, and many others that “authenticate items”. my girlfriend refunded her and is wondering how you guys and she can tell this one is fake for future reference. I know to look for the black stitch line across top of tag as a way to tell its real, also correct serial which the bag in question had both of. I know the rivets can be diffirent from year to year as well as other features so it would be nice to understand what details exactly made this bag fake. All of ours are purchased from high rated sellers on mercari JP where a lot of authentic items come from… as well as a resell archive store located in Toronto… so if the store in Toronto sold us a fake one clearly a lot of people have no clue how to tell a real vs fake when it comes to the minor details. Id like to know what those are thank you
Just because a site is "trusted" doesn't mean fakes can't be listed. Just because a site "authenticates" what they sell doesn't mean they are correct. The Real Real, for example, claims to authenticate and they have let many fakes slip through. And unfortunately, "trusted" sites like Ebay and Poshmark do absolutely zilch when a fake is reported.
Yes, black stitching is one facet of Balenciaga's, but that's not it. The font of the tag, the bale, stitching...also rivets did not differ year to year- they were solid until about 2005, and then they were notched, and that notching didn't change. There are many things we look out for; some bags are good fakes, the Bal bags you/your girlfriend are selling are sadly not.
We can not go into specifics as counterfeiters use these threads for tips on how to get better; my advice is to have a bag you're interested in authenticated independently prior to purchase, especially since it seems you are doing this as a side business (?). I can tell you it took me years to get to the point that I felt I had enough knowledge to authenticate. (And there are even authentication services that do a poor job- Entrupy, for one.)
It's a hard lesson that fakes are everywhere, and some resellers don't care. I applaud you for refunding the buyer, at least.

I'm going to try to answer your questions but it's not an easy thing to reply to.

The authenticators here have years of experience and have examined hundreds and hundreds of bags, as well as having collections of their own (we're all fairly Bal obsessed).

Many fake bags have the black thread (which, BTW, isn't on all Balenciaga styles) and the correct style code. There are nuances...is the font correct? Are the details on the tag, back of zipper head etc, correct for the year and season of the bag? A tag on an 07 bag would be different than a tag on a 2012 bag for instance. The font on the back of the zipper head has changed from time to time. Is the hardware correct for the season, year? Was the colour, type of leather, correct for the season, year? There are tons of variables.

We do realize that some sellers are unaware that they're selling inauthentic bags. There are also sellers who know that the bag they list is fake.

Our (unpaid) task here is to try to help people that want to purchase a Balenciaga but don't have the experience to tell authentic from fake. Many people in stores or resale sites lack the depth knowledge that comes from spending years examining the details that we have.

Some of the authenticators at various resale sites have only a cursory knowledge of any particular brand. How can they, when they see so many different ones?

There are stories of people returning "authentic" bags to the boutique they purchased from, only for customer service staff to realize that the authentic bag had been switched for an excellent fake.

Some staff, too, only know the current styles they're selling. There's a story of a very knowledgeable Hermes collector taking her bag to the boutique for maintenance only to be told her bag was a fake, and they were going to destroy it. The staff didn't have the depth of knowledge to know that it was a a rare bag, they hadn't been with Hermes long enough to remember that particular edition. Many of us here have had bags we've tried to sell rejected by eBay, Posh, and VC because they were old and very collectable bags that the authenticators there had never seen.

I hope this helps.

EDIT: I see @atlantis1982 types faster than I do.

I lack the civility and patience exhibited by the other expert authenticators here. If you want advice and help, approach with a better attitude and tone. Bye.

I’m sorry, I took it but apparently didn’t add to the post! Here it is :)
Can you post clear straight view, right side up shots? In some of them I have to crane my neck to evaluate the font and lettering (e.g., on the tiny zipper).

I don't have one of these, but assume the fonts and features are similar to the Rodeo. I don't see anything off yet, but would like to see a close up of the logoed zipper, and the metal plate with the screws in it.

Thank you for sparing my neck!!

I have to give this disclaimer again because I don't have a Bel Air, but the fonts everywhere are same as those on my Rodeos. I've seen some otherwise really good fakes where the fonts and serial tags were off and gave away that they're fakes. Yours looks good to me in every detail that I know to track.
