“Authentic” 30 year old Speedy rejected for repair because of being fake!

Thank you for your reply! Since the incident I’ve done a lot of research and def believe the bag is authentic! Now my ego is in play and I want to go to a different boutique and get them to send it for repairs. I kinda feel sorry for my bag and want to give it another chance! Any suggestions on good repair services? I def know there are none in my area.
You may be able to find one that does mail order. You would send them pics, they give you a quote, you post them the bag etc. I would Google designer handbag repair or designer purse repair and see what comes up and read reviews.

I’d return it to the seller and look for another if I were you. Whether it’s fake or not if LV won’t repair it, it seems a lot of hassle to try to persuade them they’re wrong.
True! Unluckily it was a no returns accepted listing and I do not want to escalate it to ebay mediation because I do believe it’s auth and that I bought it from an honest seller. After contacting him he said (which might be total bull) that he’s been in business for over 20 years and that there is not way that the bag is fake.

Thanks a lot!
Would you consider just returning the bag to the seller and getting your money back.....and being at peace with that?
If an authenticator tells you it is real yet LV refuses to repair it and stands by their claim that it's not, what would you do?
Unfortunately it was a returns not accepted listing. If LV refuses to repair it I guess I’d just accept my loss and use this as a learning experience to use when buying vintage bags

I agree that replacing the leather would remove the vintage appeal. How much did you pay for it? Would you be willing to wear it as is? Or perhaps just get the torn leather tabs repaired by a local repair person? Or even have a crafty person embellish your bag?
I definitely think you should make another trip to Louis Vuitton, see a manager who hopefully is a different one than last time, and explain why you believe this bag is authentic and get a second opinion. If they won’t work with you, just pay an authenticator. I hope you get your authentication answer soon.

Sheesh, I really need to proofread before posting so I don’t always have to edit!!
I’ve seen those embellished bags! They look amazing! That might be my last hope. If I do get the leather and zipper replaced plus the cost of the bag I’d be close to the cost of a new bag. At this point I’d go for the leather replacement only. I’m calling the vuitton line tomorrow and explain my case and hopefully get an honest opinion from them!

I think the vintage patina is really nice, if you're happy with the price you paid I'd keep the bag and have the torn zipper pull replaced by a non-LV leather shop and just enjoy the bag! The zipper pull is the only bad part from what I can see in your photos, the handles look great so it would be a shame to get rid of them anyway.
Thank you for your words of encouragement and you are totally right! What bums me is that I bought this bag with the idea of having it repaired and that resulted in a very uncomfortable experience. I was being too romantic when I did the purchase. Lesson learned!

I have a vintage Speedy 30 that I bought in the 70s at Bloomingdales or Macy’s (I also bought a Papillon a few years later so I forget which store was what). The 30 was one of The French Company ones. It held up really well (still have it) and in the late 90s I took it in to a LV store to inquire on a zipper repair as it wasn’t zipping anymore. There were some older salespeople there, and gave me the quote. Sometimes I wonder though with the newer salespeople if it would be flagged as fake because of not being familiar with the really old bags. My Papillon was one of the early ones and had some differences than others that came later, but both are definitely authentic.

I think I read somewhere that LV no longer services French Co bags.

They don't. My grand mother has a speedy from French co and she wanted to change the zipper and leather and they said they don't repair them anymore. She wanted to fix it to give it to my sister as my grandfather bought it for her.

@OP : I would talked to the seller for him to accept the return or escalate with eBay.

So see if you can get it repaired elsewhere. Try Rago Brothers. They do free quotes by mail in. My local LV store recommends them.

I think you have a case with eBay if LV says they won’t repair because LV say it’s not authentic despite what seller claims. If LV won’t touch it, it really doesn’t matter what seller says, I would think.

Seconding what @babyloove said re: French Company--LV couldn't do my Monceau either, and the SA said they no longer do French Company repairs as they don't stock that darker leather.

Good to know. Won't have to think about going there regarding that bag. Although all the more I carry it these days won't matter anyway. My leather is in good shape, handles discolored where carried, as expected though.

True. But if I were you I would try another store (if possible) or when a different shift is on duty there. I just don't know the extent of the younger clerks' training. I would hope they were up to speed, but who knows. It's likely they have never seen older ones IRL. There are all the various sites and videos stating the flags for people to look out for, but if they don't know the French Co bags / don't mention them as an exception (which probably most don't), I think they and others would assume those were fake based on a couple of those reasons. (which is why I brought up my Speedy).
