Lenox Square used to be a basic mall. They started out as a strip mall, then it was enclosed, and they had music stores, a movie theater....and everything from Neiman Marcus to a drugstore. The management chose in recent years to go upscale, and Urban Outfitters is about as low as they go--and they're WAY off on one end away from what I call "the luxury wing." Hermes was right next to Neiman Marcus, and on that level you also had St. John, Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, LV, Cartier, Bulgari, Ferragamo, Godiva...and a few others on that level.

Simon owns this mall as well at the one that's across the street, and that too, has gone luxury. That's where you find Saks, Armani, Versace, Gucci, Tiffany...and like Lenox, they shoved out a lot of the smaller guys.

The reason I hate to see Hermes move down the street is because most of Atlanta's luxury stores were located in one of these two malls, and it was super convenient for both locals and those that traveled in just to shop.

Ammietwist - I couldn't help but laugh, and had this funny image in my head of an Hermes store opening next to Wall-Mart in a shopping mall! :roflmfao:

If I'm not mistaken, I believe a few of the new Hermes stores will be out of fancy malls and more "free-standing" so to speak. Well, not their own individual building, but with street entrances. I believe the Denver new store is like that too.

Personally, as I stated earlier - I don't mind going out of my way to get to Hermes. Makes it more special in a way!

A disappointing update on the status of Atlanta's New Hermes:I was in the store on Saturday around noon (I was their first and only customer since they'd opened the doors that morning - not good!) In chatting with the SA's (unfortunately, they didn't have anything else to do), I learned that the new store won't open now until 2011 - two years behind schedule!

I hated to hear that news, but the luxury development across the street, which is to be Hermes' final destination, continues to be at a standstill, and there has been no construction re-start, which was slated for July and then for August.

Apparently, the majority of luxury retailers who had signed leases to go into the Streets of Buckhead have changed their minds, and who can blame them. I'd heard earlier in the summer that Bottega Veneta had pulled out, and that John Lobb was seriously considering doing the same. I haven't heard specifics on the other shops, so I don't know if Chanel, Loro Piana, and the others are still holding tight, but Hermes definitely is, as Hermes USA management wants them to wait it out. But without new leases, I doubt that the developer can get the new financing required to move forward and complete the development. Frankly, I doubt this development will ever see the light of day. I certainly hope that I'm wrong, but it doesn't look good with a slow-to-recover economy.

I asked them why they just don't high-tail it over to Phipps Plaza, but for now they'll be staying in the temporary space awaiting some progress just across the street.

Thanks so much for the update ... sooooo am I understanding correctly that they are no longer in Lenox but are located across the street from the luxury development?

Yes, Kallie, they moved out of Lenox Mall back in late January. (There's a darn lingerie store in their space now, and it seems so strange not to see the "orange" when I walk by.)

They moved into "temporary" space right across the street from the development site in the Buckhead area and thought they'd be there for less than a year. Of course, the temporary space is very nice, but parking is limited, they have no visiblity from Peachtree, and few people apparently even know they're there. Of course, they're getting none of the visitor/tourist traffic they once enjoyed being right next to Neiman-Marcus either.

One of my non-H friends actually thought they'd closed their doors in Atlanta.

Thanks for the info! That's just awful to hear, though! Tooo bad!!!

I know, and if things get worse, I may have to drive to Charlotte for my H. fix!

But, R. Chavez and the Hermes USA management team are fully aware while they don't have the traffic and aren't pressing them on their numbers at least for the moment. I do feel sorry for the SA's who depend on the commission, but, it's really a great time to get their undivided attention and most anything you want from Hermes!

It's sad to hear that the Atlanta store will have to stay in their temporary digs for awhile. It really was a hassle to find the location and then find parking. Not an ideal location, even if temporary. But once you're inside, it's quite nice, and all the SAs were very helpful and friendly. It's good to know that Hermes USA is understanding of the drop in revenue, but I'm sure if the manager and employees are paid bonuses based on sales, they aren't too happy. Too bad I don't visit my sister more often, I'd keep their revenue at least at break even point!

The temporary location is not as convenient in terms of the location itself and parking, but they do have more space inside (so more H goodies). The SAs are always so helpful. My SA really goes above and beyond. I love shopping at this boutique! It wouldn't matter to me if they decide to move back to Lenox or not bc I wouldn't mind making a special trip there anyways.

Thanks so much for the update lilyhermes. What a bummer. I was really looking forward to BV/Chanel/VCA boutiques in Atlanta. I agree with you, it would be great if they move to Phipps. But I have to say I go to NMs all the time and it's still weird not having H right next door :(

Oh, I don't either, but I am feeling sorry for the SA's. They seemed more than a little depressed (and bored, of course) when I was there on Saturday. Hopefully, business will pick up with the holidays approaching.

I just think that there are too many Atlantans who think they simply went out of business (several of my close friends have said, "where are you shopping now that Hermes has closed?".) Some local advertising might be called for.

They do have designated parking right in front of the store now - no more valet, which is a good thing, since the valet parkers and I were already on a first-name basis!:D
