It is super hard to give advice without seeing the stones. Are you able to post some pics?

I am a huge fan of asscher cut. If I ever get to own one, this would be my ring:

I just bought a pair of earrings with the same design as the ring.

Asscher. They are cut deep so a lot of the weight is under the crown so it might "look" smaller than one of the same ct wt. The beauty is in the depth. I tried on a 3 ct and it was like a deep glistening pool.

I believe asschers have more cuts than square emerald cuts. Are you getting this in the states or UK?

If it's an asscher then I personally think the cut should be pretty much perfect. I would only get one in these circumstances, but it is my favourite cut by far.

my e-ring is an emerald and it sparkles like crazy!! clarity is VVS2, if you are not planning on getting the best clarity you can afford or less than a 1 ct i think you are better off getting an asscher. IMO emeralds are prettier larger, in order to appreciate the beautiful step-cut.

I agree.
Emerald cuts work best in larger stones (provided one is in a position to buy a large stone).

It's hard to see asschers in person, so I thought I would post some pics of mine. I also was due for an upgrade on my original stone. I considered asschers and emeralds as well because I love the step cut look. But ultimately I'm a sucker for symmetry and I went with the asscher. However, as most will tell you, not all asschers are created equal and to minimize the risk of getting a dud asscher, I got a Royal Asscher-branded asscher, which is a brand cut.

One picture is the ring when I first got it, then in the sun and then a closeup I tried to take (it had gotten pretty dirty by that point).

Diamond specs:
- 2.61 ct
- Royal Asscher
- 7.63 mm x 7.61 mm x 5.27 mm
- Color: I
- Clarity: VS1
- Polish: Excellent
- Symmetry; Very Good
- Depth: 69.3%
- Table: 53%
- Flourescence: None

Ring specs:
- Size 5
- 2 mm wide band

If you love the elongated shape of the emerald cut but want more faceting, check out the Crisscut Emerald. It's a patented cut by Christopher Designs. A standard emerald cut stone has 46 facets. The Crisscut emerald has 77 facets.

My ering is a Crisscut emerald. It's pretty amazing. (very similar to the cut of Reese Witherspoon's Ashoka diamond.

Here is the link to the site.
