^Depends on the item. For items in very good condition, the items go for very close to retail. Rare items, more than retail. DH (who doesn't know the retail value of the items) is the one who bids, and every item he has won has been for about retail. He bid and won a 28cm togo kelly in basically new condition (plastic still on hardware!) a year ago and paid more than retail.

Thanks! =) From what I heard from some resellers (store owners) around here, business is much slower than some years ago though, so maybe it's a great time to score some deals. =) I agree with you though that for the most popular bags in good condition, there probably wont be much ofa difference. ;)

actually, i just checked and auction fee and VAT was 27.5% on top of hammer price. then i was refunded 16.5% of that 27.5% because i personally carried the items out of the EU.
So a 1000 euro hammer price would cost you 1275 euros. Then, if you take the item out of the EU with a non-EU passport, you would be refunded about 45 euros. So your net cost on the item was approx 1230 euros. Using this calculation, one can see that about 23% above the hammer price is what you can buy for, IF you are a non-EU carrying it out of the EU.
If you are out of the country expecting items to be shipped, I don't know how much shipping cost you need to calculate, but I would not lowball that, if I were you.

i asked about requiring CITES for the ostrich bracelet and was told (by artcurial) that i didn't need it. now if you buy a bag or larger piece??? maybe ostrich is not looked for as much as alligator, crocodile. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA. i seem to recall threads about CITES around here, in case that's what you're going to buy. good luck Suzie, and chances are, it'll be less of a hassle than that auction in your neighboring country ;);)

^ Yes, I totally agree about the auction in NZ, what a hassle. I have to buy the bag first though, but just wanted to get a little background. It will probably go for more than I have though!

There sure are many eye candies up there...I wish the final value would be clearer if buying from overseas online...
