NEW YORK (AP) -- Aretha Franklin won't be getting fitted for a wedding gown after all: She's called off her engagement.

In a statement released Monday, her representative said her wedding to Willie Wilkerson wasn't going to happen.

Franklin said things were moving too fast and "a number of things" had not been thought through.

She says she won't be commenting about it because of "the very personal and sensitive nature of it."

It's not clear if they are still a couple.

Franklin announced shortly after New Year's Day that she was getting married, and said she planned a wedding in either the Hamptons or Miami.

when I read this I busted out laughing spitting out my water... not the fact that she is not getting married(maybe) but that its typical Aretha- who is by the way my favorite singer of all time... i have all of her greatest hits in my cd changer in the car... she has the most powerful voice ever.

Even Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin needs support from time to time.

'Retha's making headlines for her amazing cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" -- and she was showing off her ball gown swag Monday in NYC after taping an episode of "The Late Show with David Letterman."

She's a natural woman.

I spy Cissy Houston singing backup (she looks like she does NOT want to be there)

Why is her face 3 times darker than her chest, arms

I love Aretha... But... IDK. No to this. Her voice isn't bad for someone her age, but I think she would be better off singing songs in a lower range. I'm not here for this "Rolling in the deep" thing.

Her off voice is refreshing imho. I much prefer the raw, scratchy sound of a real voice than Katy Perry.

The dress I cannot defend, but she is 60+. Do you get a pass after that age? Idk...maybe.
