Are you keeping all your bags or buying and selling if they’re not used?

I try to sell whatever I don't use. If the bag has poor resale value--like contemporary designer items--I will take it to consignment (not worth the effort for what I'll get back so my main goal is just to get back some $$) but if it has good resale value, like designer items, I'll try to sell on my own.

Some bags, though unused, are hard to let go because they have sentimental value or was purchased because of a milestone. The 2 LV Speedys I have are barely used, but one I purchased after finishing a rather difficult year in University, and the other was a gift from family while I was visiting in Hong Kong.

I’ve added quite a bit to my bag collection over the past few years and even though I’m not usually very disciplined about pruning the contents of my closets, I finally ran out of storage and had to prune. I have photos of each bag and filed them by designer, color, and bag style but I was having a hard time deciding what to prune until I finally hit on the idea of taking bag “family” photos by grouping similar bag styles together in photos. Seeing them grouped like that made it much easier to decide what to prune and what gaps could be filled when looking at potential new purchases. The bags I pruned were given to family members and daughters of friends. It’s just too time consuming to research consignment shops and figure out prices on the resale market, etc. Since I never looked at my bags as investments and wrote off the money in my mind once i’d Purchased a bag, it doesn’t bother me to give them away when they no longer work with my current lifestyle and wardrobe. I’m happy that they get a second chance with people who have a use for them.

Excellent and very healthy approach!

I keep very few handbags, and wouldn't consider myself a collector just for the sake of collecting. I sell what I don't use and purchase a new bag very infrequently. This is based on necessity.

I try to sell a bag I don’t use often when I’m buying a new one. Trying to be more responsible now that I have a mortgage. I don’t always stick to that rule though, especially since I’ve been having excellent luck finding new or newish bags for under $300 on eBay and Poshmark.

That being said... there’s a part of me that thinks I won’t be satisfied with any brown bag until I have a Louis. My wallet might be in trouble, lol!

I sell bags that I don’t use no matter how new and pretty and expensive or rare they are.

A long time ago I sold on eBay and luckily I had great buyers and no issues.. these days hearing the scary stories of selling on eBay as a seller, I don’t sell on eBay by myself anymore. Too scared of scammers.

I sell through consignment stores like fashionphile which give me a peace of mind (hassle free). I’ve also given nice bags away to other people as well as donated some. My collection is small now, and I use everything so nothing to sell. If I want something, I do a one in one out rule.

I don’t sell mine. I have several that haven’t been worn in years, but I don’t imagine me selling them.
My grandmother loved telling us grand daughters what she’d bought knowing would be ours one day, and my mother was not like that. I have such fond memories playing in her jewelry and accessories and plan on handing them over to my daughter slowly if she loves any of them.

I'm trying to stop my revolving door situation, and have sold quite a few. Gong to be more mindful of purchases in the future.

When I buy a bag, I keep it for life. However, there are a few bags that I had to let go. They no longer fit in with my current lifestyle. It was either too small, too big and did not have a crossbody capability.
Yes! Having crossbody capability is so important!

All my purses now are carried crossbody (except for a backpack) so I am always hands free… very convenient!

I cannot do top-handle bags with a toddler! Shoulder bags would probably be okay…however I think crossbody bags are the best! ^^

I have sold a few and also given away bags that didn’t work for me as gifts to family and friends in the past. Currently my goal is to keep the bags I have. There are maybe 3-4 that I don’t use enough but I don’t want the hassle of selling. I have just slowed down purchasing, and hoping to keep it that way, and just enjoy the bags I have.

The ones that have been sitting pretty in their spots for yrs that my dtr isn’t interested in are given away to sisters and nieces. ☺️
Aside from the ones reserved for her, there are special ones that I currently use and rotate that she cannot have….yet, lol.
