Are you keeping all your bags or buying and selling if they’re not used?

Depends. If the bags fit my style, but just not getting used as much I'd still keep them. Needs change, so I never know which I'll want to pull out of the wardrobe on any given day-that's part of the fun for me. Also, nowadays a lot of things are not made as well at the same price point, so it's financially more sensible for me to hold on. However, should I feel I'd never use the item for whatever reason, then I'd sell it even at a loss. There's always something else on the horizon to love; rather than feeling pressured to downsize, then fall into a vicious buy/sell cycle. it's makes sense to satisfy my needs based on what I already have.

I've sold one bag, a Burberry, and will be selling a couple of bags I really wanted but in the end didn't click with me (Dior Ultra Bag, BV large Olimpia). I only sell bags that are in pristine condition. If the bags have light signs of use and are of less expensive but good brands (Lancel, Borbonese, Abro), they get donated. More heavily used bags get put out on a low wall in front of a nearby apartment building with a "gratis" note attached (a common practice here). They have always been picked up within an hour or two.

Will also sell a Ferragamo wallet that I just don't use since I got my LV Zippy. And a pair of tortoiseshell patent Ferragamo Varina flats that turned out to be a little too tight and so have only worn twice. Even if I sell them all, I won't be buying more new bags. Well. Maybe. I'd love to own an Alexander McQueen Box Bag 19 in the dark red moc croc but...we'll see.

Never sold a bag- keep them all--8 Chanel bags; 8 Louis Vuitton, 1 Gucci,, 1 Judith Leiber--some I've had since early 1990's
There have been other threads on this question that you may want to research.

Thanks! I tried searching but I couldn’t find one.. [emoji29]

It’s a pain for me to sell because I got into a lawsuit before because somebody tried to scam me with a cheque.. I never wanted that to happen again..

This is a bit off topic, but I've been interested in Lancel bags for a bit now. How would you rate them? I like that they're elegant but understated - what made you let them go?

Wow! I want to live where I can walk down the street and see free stuff haha!

The box bag is stunning. If you ever get it, please do share in the box bag thread!

I can't stand to see expensive items languishing in my closet. I don't like selling but it is the only way I can recoup some of the expense. It has become a deterrent to buying. I wish everything would sell already so I could relax.
For me, it's a delight to open my closet and take out a designer bag I haven't used in awhile, makes me feel like I have a new bag yet it's already paid for----particularly the Chanels, wouldn't be able to afford as many of them today.

Unfortunately, Lancel is a struggling company that keeps closing stores. They had 220 stores in 2008... and now they only have 71! They used to be a direct competitor to Longchamp (and seen as more prestigious), but in the early 2000s they began to make a series of strategic mistakes that led to massive financial losses. Last year, Richemont sold Lancel to an Italian group. This Maison is only the shadow of what it used to be.

I buy too many to keep them all. I have to resell when I'm bored or they aren't my style anymore. I have lost a lot over the years so my purchases are more thoughtful and I do keep a majority now. But I'll let anything go if I have to. Not interested in keeping things I don't like/use.

I do not keep bags to languish in my closet. I gift and donate most of them to friends and family who are not as fortunate as I am in being to afford nice bags. They are always thrilled which makes me happy. I put bags on consignment with Yoogi's occasionally, especially the preowned premier designer bags that I have managed to get at a reasonable price. I have been able to get slightly more than I paid for them so far. And Yoogi's is a pleasure to deal with. With me they answer promptly, give a quote and honor that quote.

I sell, if I can, when I get tired of them. Trouble is there is almost no market for them so it’s usually a big loss. I didn’t buy planning to make a profit, but I expected at least half my money back for them and it just doesn’t happen. My high ends I send out to consign and my entry bags like Dooney or Coach I sell to coworkers for $40-$50.
