Are you concerned about wearing heavily branded or recognizable luxury bags due to theft?

IMO it has everything to do with prosecutorial politics and nothing to do with the above
Where I am in SoCal the police have basically been told to stand down unless it is an active felony. Every day I see multiple posts on Nextdoor about brazen thefts. The victims have camera footage documenting the crime and they are basically told to have their insurance handle it. If it is under $600 it isn't considered a "crime"
The other day at a grocery retailer I saw a woman putting things in her backpack. Store security had to let her go because she refused to let them look in it. I even offered to file a complaint but they still just let her go.
It is always said when someone has to steal groceries :(
Wish there were resources for people to have basics like food... richest country in the world. it's a shame.

For a city of it's size that I live in, we have a relatively low crime rate - so I'm not too scared re: luxe and carrying it out and about (and I still do). I'm not really that worried about getting mugged even on quieter streets (or getting punched in the face and having my handbag stolen, as others have described.)

I am a little more hyper-aware taking the subway - even with my SO or friends - that my bag is zipped and on my lap.

However: I have noticed there are a lot more displaced homeless and mentally ill people around the city now since March 2020, and I notice they've become a lot more... aggressive with their language. I just try and ignore it, not engage, not make eye contact, etc. So, if I've gone to a luxe store and bought something, I've tried to get in and get back home as quickly as I can rather than carrying around the shopping bag and hitting up Zara/H&M after like, Gucci.

I wasn’t sure if this was a sarcastic comment? There are many resources for food for people in need, both thru government and private (and religious) organizations. I’ve volunteered at many regularly.

I hate visible branding and this is one of the reasons. I don't want to make myself an intriguing target for robbery, and that goes for both my hometown and travel.
I also have zero need to have anyone's attention on me or my bag what ever I do - minimal branding works for me, I enjoy it and I'm going to stick with it.

In Finland I might carry designer even on my travels but when I'm traveling to another country I carry Kipling, nylon LC, Pacsafe, Eastpak etc. Nothing that will separate me from the locals, not in the way that would make me a target anyway. I don't feel like I can enjoy traveling if I have to be on guard all the time and if I end up in not-so-great neighborhood I feel safer if there isn't a huge logo attracting attention.
I have been told this is wrong and I'm weird for thinking like this. I say let me do me and you do you; I feel better when I'm going stealth (as in I look boring and not a lucrative target). I'm 6 ft tall and noisy so escaping attention is hard for me anyways...

HIGH FIVE

I definitely am concerned. I am more inclined to wear understated luxury when I’m running around town..like my puzzle bag. I still am aware of my surroundings and I think thieves can probably tell an expensive bag from an inexpensive one whether there is visible branding or not. For this reason, I’ve always got my mace on hand. If someone tries to mug me, SURPRISE gotchya!”

So very many bags across brands and price points have some external branding be it logo mania style or simply a brand name. It’s not necessarily a preference to have a logo. There is no alternative if you want that particular bag. And, small logos don’t bother me.

That being said, I hadn’t heard a peep about purse snatchings til I saw this thread. I live in a major city and googled the topic and found two articles in 5 years.

I bought my bags to wear them so I do. And, I don’t know that this is a growing problem everywhere to the point that I need to take any more caution than I normally do - which includes always keeping my bag on my person in public. No putting in the baby area of a shopping cart and walking away to shop the aisle or leaving it in the passenger seat while I load purchases like I see so many do. Common sense and awareness of your immediate environment go a long way in making yourself a less interesting target.

Depends on where I am. In my neighborhood and area I wear my Chanel’s, lv, ysl, etc without worry. Having said that, I do not set my handbags in carts, or on tables no matter how familiar I am with the area. It stays on my person when I am not at home. If I am in a store for groceries I wear all my bags with the logos/ closures facing my body.

I’ve never been a fan of logos all over bags, but lately I have been careful of which bags I take out. There’s a huge uptick in crime, and I’m pregnant, so I feel like an even easier target. 99% of the time I use a non branded tote bag. I stopped wearing my engagement ring, and I wear take advantage of jacket sleeves to cover my bracelets.

Every morning, I walk to pick up coffee. It’s less than a block away. In this past week alone, I’ve witnessed car break-ins in broad daylight and heard of an armed robbery (lady waiting in her locked car in the parking lot). Now my husband doesn’t want me going to get coffee, or honestly leaving the house to even go for a walk by myself. I understand his concerns, but this is getting ridiculous…especially considering the thieves have nicer cars than we do!
