Are these veins normal?

Yes I am seeking Togo again (it doesn't have to be zero-vein, but a less visible one). At first I was told exchange can only made for an Epson as he tried to convince me to keep the one on hand. But I made myself crystal clear that Epson is not an option. I also made a request for TC but unfortunately I was told TC is very rare in my country. Hopefully it will works out smoothly...
Clemence Birkins are extremely rare these days in general. Please update when you have your new bag. I’ve never heard of an exchange being made for a quota bag so I’m quite curious to the outcome. (Yes, I’ve heard of a refund in the form of store credit but then it’s months and months until a new bag is offered, if ever…)

It was a spontaneous offer from the boutique and I didn't know that 'veining' existed on Togo until now. I already sent back for an exchange after giving some thoughts, I am in the shoes/accesoories industry so I know veins should be avoided to be minimal during the pattern-making process (even for the lower cost lines) however by doing so, the more veins on the leather, the more will disposed. I totally agree with you, I tried but I couldn't convince myself to love it, even it is a classic Birkin.
Veining is not a sign of lower quality. I can see might be undesirable in shoes for some brands, but the way that Hermès Togo is processed (it's not stamped but is drummed to emphasize the natural grain) is literally designed to leave natural characteristics of the leather in place. The veining is intentional.
It's also 100% a personal preference. I am picky about veining too, but more about the pattern.
LOL Of course he tried to convince me that this is normal and that mine isn't the worse one he has seen lately, but he 'seemed' like he took it professionally when I insisted (I might be wrong). He said I am not the first one.

Also I sent it back for an exchange because I was told refund is not allowed for quota bags.
Hopefully this will work out smoothly...;(

As long as it was a reasonably short time and the bag is clearly untouched, this should be fine. Of course it would be better to refuse the bag in-store, but I'm sure we can all understand being blinded by excitement.

You may have to wait a long time for another bag in your specs (this depends on your store). Clémence in a Birkin under 35 is rarely seen these days.

I had no idea Clemence birkins were hard to get these days. Is it just for birkins or is Clemence rare in general these days?

There are plenty Evelyne in clemence lately. They even sold occasionally on website.
The Evelyne is primarily made in Clemence.
Clemence just isn't used for Birkins as much anymore - still a much-used and very popular leather. (A great one IMO, very durable with excellent color saturation.)

I have a black 35 birkin in clemence leather. It's so heavy, I hardly use the bag at all. But the GHW/ black color/ size makes it a great business meeting tote. SO chic and such a statement piece.

My etoupe 30 birkin in togo is my most used Birkin. The veining is gorgeous and so natural and artistic. Sorry for this recent pic, I was trying to showcase the new CHANEL WOC I got. Great barbie color! But you get the idea.

Thank you for the feedbacks on the previous post;) I just picked up a replacement in Bk30/Etoupe/palladium/Togo today, with very minimal veining (almost invisible) to my eyes. I initially favored a Birkin in Gold togo but it will probably take forever to be offered another Gold togo after returning one.

And lesson learned, I will be much more careful next time with the inspection;) My SA said every batch of leather is different, maybe Gold leather will be less veined then others in the next couple of months.

Hello acrowcounted,

Here is an update on the return of the Birkin,

I received a replacement in Bk30/Etoupe/palladium/Togo today instead, with very minimal veining in my eyes.
It took about 2 weeks wait. But it will probably take forever if I insisted on waiting for a Gold togo.
My SA said there were two other Gold Togos that came in but the veining were worse...Perhaps I'll try my luck next year for a Gold;)

Although I loved your first bag bc of its gorgeous veins, I’m glad for you that you got a satisfactory replacement. I also have an etoupe togo with minimal veining. Sadly I decided togo leather is a bit too dull and matte (dry looking) for me these days. So, I’ve refused subsequent togo B offers.

ETA: I thought of this thread bc I am having a company upholstered a custom made banquette with top quality Loro Piana nubuck. We have to purchase five whole hides (that is how they are sold). And, the LP sales manager at the Design Center specifically warned us that LP does not process the hides to create any uniformity of texture. She specifically mentioned veins as something inherent in the top quality hide and not cause for replacement. I thought it was interesting esp bc their large nubuck sample had absolutely no veining at all.

That is definitely interesting to know. Thank you so much for sharing;)
