Are gloves really necessary?

I find it necessary so if the display is the last one in stock and I really wanted that item then I'd more likely buy it. I'm meticulous like that, I've passed on some items even though I'm dying to have them only because they're the ones on display...

I do not want to buy a bag that anyone else has handled, so I prefer they wear gloves. I also do not like the idea of other women handling my potential bag....we all wear lotions, perfumes, sunscreens etc. that can get on the bag. For less expensive bags, that is why they have a display bag, and for more expensive bags, I think they should wear gloves.

Today my regular SA informed me that there is a new rule requiring them to wear gloves, I think this is pretty silly...

What are your thoughts?

I've been to museums where the tour guides handled artifacts and had to wear cotton gloves to avoid scratching them - but this just seems weird in a store. Especially since as someone else said, the customer is free to handle the item without gloves.

I don't mind. Ive said many times that i like the direction that LV has taken. i had moved away from LV bags in favor of Chanel but these more sophisticated items are definitely drawing me back.

The gloves are part of the presentation. I like when my bags (but especially my shoes) are presented to me on the LV tray at the store.

They've always worn gloves when handling exotics and trunk show items. Wearing gloves to show an entry level canvas bag? Seems extreme but there must be issues with stains? But they would never make the customers wear gloves.

Chanel SAs use gloves and somehow it makes the bags seem more precious and desirable. haha maybe thats why Louis Vuitton is adopting it too, to increase the standard? I don't know but I don't mind it at all. It doesn't cause me any extra inconvenience than before
